Columbus Day - How crowded???

I'm planning a trip for October with my Sis and her kids. They can only go the week of Columbus Day. What kind of crowds can we expect? Is just Columbus weekend busy, or will attendance be high the entire week? My DH and I ususally go during off times when crowds are low, so we're a little concerned.

I appreciate any insight you can give regarding the week of Columbus Day! Thanks so much!!!

We went that week last year (arriving on Columbus Day). We normally go in September (when there is no crowds) so we were quite surprised by all the people. Not to say the park was packed but when you go from no crowds to any crowds.... it can be a bit overwhelming and appear to be more crowded than it actually is.... does that make sense We did need fast pass and most rides had at least a 30 minute wait. I do know however that it is definitely less crowded than summer!!!

Normally it is the most crowded time in October and many people think October is the best month at WDW. We usually go the week before or after Columbus Day. Now with the new Fairytale Package out, I personally think October will be as bad as spring break time..... major crowded. Although we always go in October, this year because of the Fairytale Package, we are going out to California instead because of the expected crowds. We'll hit WDW in early December now. Although this new package has made me rethink our travel plans, I'm so happy Disney came up with it! I really think this Package has what it takes to turn around the numbers at WDW which in turn will help more Cast Members get more hours, maybe even end the hiring freeze. It is a great idea - Disney's marketing people really came through on this one. I can't wait to see the numbers on attendance for the months this package covers.
