I had a colonoscopy in April. I had mentioned prior that I have a lot of issues with sedation. We spoke at length about it beforehand, I was assured I would be given enough to put me in a great twilight, etc, etc. Nothing worked !! The Dr said the anesthesiologist gave me the max. The Dr was so empathetic he wanted to stop, but I told him no, I would never come back. I couldn’t believe the people sleeping in recovery. Some were woozy standing up! By the time I was to leave, I was already dressed, the nurse could not believe it.
I would not recommend it, to be honest. For me, it was quite painful, amd much more than discomfort. We are all different that is for sure. I just hope I never need to go under general, because now I am honestly more worried about that.
I had my first one in May and I woke up halfway through the procedure! And it was no 'woke up and was woozy' it was woke up and was EXTREMELY ALERT. They were 'on the way out' so decided not to try anything else and I got to 'watch' them remove the last polyp and I found it extremely uncomfortable. I cannot imagine being awake for it. It was like really bad cramps that never went away.
Then I got a rash on my arm where the IV was that lasted a month. And I need to do it every 3 years :/
I did meet the doctor before he did anything, though. They were great--asked if I had any questions, concerns, etc. then wheeled me in.
