We have talked about going to Colonial Wiliamsburg, but never actually went. We were looking at the school calendar & decided we would like to go away (but not to disney) for Jersey week inn early November.

We don't like heat or crowds, so I am thinking this would be a great time for CW. I am just not sure if it is all open at this time of year? Are there things we will miss by going in Nov. rather than summer??

I found a good rate on a marriot residence inn (family of 5) any other recomendations for hotels that sleep 5? Any other activities in the area at this time of year??

We just returned (the last week of August)! It was such a great time. My boys are already begging to go back (13,10). My 6 year old was bored but enjoyed the horses and a few of the tours. It looked to me like CW is open year round. The houses that are open have flags in front of them. There are only certain ones open on certain days so you might want to go to the official Colonial Williamsburg site and click on the date you will be visiting to see which programs will be running. I would think there is plenty to do inside as well if it's cold. We only had two days to visit CW as we had the hurricane shorten our trip so we completely missed the museum, shopping and the movie at the visitors center.

My boys loved the lecture on slavery, the tour of the Governor's palace, and the military drill best. My daughter loved the Governor's palace best as she believed that was where Felicity and Elizabeth (her American Girl dolls) went to dances.

Have fun!

Williamsburg also has killer outlets, called Prime Outlets. There's a flagship Yankee Candle store that's really nice close by. Great Wolf Lodge is fun, but a bit pricy. If you're interested in architecture, there are several really handsome historic homes within about an hour's drive, all along route 5. There's the Mariner's Museum in Newport News/Hampton. Williamsburg is a great place to visit!!

I live in DC and I've been to Colonial Williamsburg a lot. I love it in November. It does get pretty cold but they also start decorating or doing special stuff for the holidays.

Check your dates... The College of William & Mary is located in Williamsburg and they have a HOME football game on November 12th. Traffic/population is heavy during games. :)

I used to live in DC, and we went often. I think the fall was my favorite time to go. Dress warm, make sure you get some hot cocoa, and have fun!

We stay at Powhatan Planation in a 2bedroom/2 bath or 3 bedroom (nice) condo with hot tub for less than a hotel in March....we rented through a Diamond Resorts timeshare owner we found on ebay...we liked it so much that we went back the next march(via same owner) and in June booked through a Diamond Resorts owner at their Orlando property,Grand Beach. We loved it so much, some days we just slept late and ate lunch in the condo and enjoyed being there. Activities there too. Also, I second Yankee and outlets...Jamestown nearby is good too!

We are going to Williamsburg in November! I bought a groupon for Powhatan for a 2bedroom with hottub - you might want to see if any are still available.

We went in Aug and stayed at the Woodlands, part of Williamsburg. The advantage to staying there is the free shuttle. It picks up at the visitors center, which is on the Woodlands property. They have suites that will sleep up to 6. When we went, for the 3 of us, it was $388 for the 2 nights of hotel and all tickets to Yorktown, Jamestown and Williamsburg plus free breakfast (it was average). Great deal!
