So, for all its plus points, my sixth form college was basically a conveyor belt catapulting students into the best University they could muster. I tried twice but die to ill health had to bow out twice. I have since then studied independently and have been much happier in my own bubble than I ever was in University.

This.

I have no idea what point you are trying to make and the purpose of trying to make a point.

You might be better served to focus on a few topics and not just start 10 new inane threads a day. Perhaps a bit harsh, but please consider it.

Not meaning to be rude, but you don't have to open every thread that I post...

This particular one was a follow up to a conversation Had had with a friend about our 6th form college being a conveyer belt based around University placements and University placements alone, despite the wealth of career opportunities out there, which I don't like the taste of much. It's almost institutionalised.

I see no restrictions on how many threads we can start or what we can talk about, so far as we do not violate the rules regarding personal attacks, etc. No one is obligated to open every thread.

Another of those topics where it is difficult to talk in generalities. You choose a college based on things like your parent's financial situation, what area you want to major in and perhaps where it is located. If you find the college to not be what you expected, you can certainly transfer elsewhere.

I will say this for my College, they certainly give you a rich education, from sports to music and the arts. It was just too heavy on the University end-point. It was a private school, so I guess I'm grateful to my parents for that :)

It should be noted that college in the US means something different than college in the UK. OP, I believe what you refer to as 6th form would still be part of high school in the US.

I would assume even in the UK, you CHOOSE which private h.s. to attend and pay whatever they charge for tuition. If one isn't to your liking, seems you should find a different one that is.

College is what you make of it. Some students are not able to/choose not to participate in all that is offered, either due to their work schedule or for personal reasons. Some take full advantage of whatever suits their interest. If it feels like a conveyor belt, perhaps one did not choose wisely.
