My son has been assigned a 5-7 page paper in his P.R. class and is looking for topic ideas. He needs to find "something" that has a public relations problem and write about how to "fix" it! He was hoping to find something in the area of sports since Sports Info is his major but his professor says he doesn't think anything in sports is "do-able"......... any suggestions ?

How about he is a PR agency hired by Kobe Bryant or the Lakers? Or, I am sure Maurice Clarett could use some positive PR before the draft. There are a bunch of athletes who need a positive spin put on their negative actions. I don't think there is any shortage of material in the world of professional athletics.

The first thing that came to my mind was the Kobe Bryant thing. What a PR nightmare!! My other thought would be to look in the paper at local sports. There is usually some kind of "scandal" floating around. At least there is here!

The NFL is looking for some positive PR after their
halftime mess. They need to appeal to their normal fans
and to the public at large.

Does it have to be recent? If so, what about Disney with Roy resigning and Eisner not responding. I don't know who thought that was a good idea, but WHOOPS! Also, I agree with the idea about the halftime show. Representing Janet, Justin, the NFL, AOL, CBS, MTV.... any of them needed to have their teams on crisis control immediately. If it doesn't have to be too recent, we watched a video in PR about the syringes in the Pepsi cans from the early '90s. They did a fantastic job at PR and it'd be interesting to pick it apart.

He could do a paper on PR with the NBA and the Olympics. Mark Cuban, owner of the Dallas Mavericks is trying to change the NBA from letting players play in the Olympics. He's been causing quite a stir the last few weeks.

SPorts - how about the ruling that the NFL cannot stop potential players from declaring for the draft early. The potential that this could have on even younger athletes i.e. HS players trying to enter and therefore losing college eligibilty.
