College Program Questions Thread, Pt 4

We've known several Cps who have lived at Flamingo without a car. It is absolutely doable. Small Target catered to Cps and tourists, Walgreens and multiple restaurants in Flamingo. There is an ER in Flamingo, too, within walking distance for emergencies. They have buses that provide transportation to local areas and I don't know where all they go, but as a local I see the bus pulling up to Walmart all the time. They can get just about anything delivered or shipped there.

@Kare my son has been doing CP and living at Flamingo since May. He has his car and could not live without it! He works late shifts, sometimes until 2:00 am, or later (MK party nights). The bus adds another hour on either end of his shift. And Uber is $$$$! There are cast member lots convenient to where they report for their shift.

Parking is $200 but there is plenty.

Coming from LA your daughter may want her car. Not judging, I am also from LA. I got my son AAA before he went down and he has had to call them for a jump (old car we just swapped out with a less old car).

If your daughter does not have a car don’t worry about shopping, she will make friends in FC and they help each other out. My son’s roommate is from Cali.

You mentioned her Dad is in Florida. Having a car for visits would be helpful. My sister lives in Florida and when my son gets a day or two off he will head there to go surfing or hunting or for some family time.

Btw, we now live on the east coast and I have driven west coast to east coast a few times back in my college days. It is not awful and worth it to have the car IMO.

Lmk if you have further questions.
Thanks for that perspective. DD has a car that is a 2022. We do share AAA lol. I'd even potentially swap my 2022 plug-in hybrid with them for the 4 months so it would be even better gas mileage for the cross country drive.
DD will be in a costume CP, so not sure of what hours will be but they've gotten used to 1am+ from a current theme park event. Dad is only there 2 weeks out of every 8, so it would maybe just be 2 trips to 5 hours away. So much number crunching of parking cost, gas, mileage/wear on the car :O
Definitely crunching numbers as fast as possible in case we decide to buy flights, bc nervous about waiting for holiday sales for Jan flight.

I'm starting to explore this option for my 18 year old senior. I want him to get out, get some experience and meet some new people. My only concern is that he has epilepsy (no seizures in 5+ years now). Do they offer any help for people that have these type of disabilities? What are the chances he doesn't get accepted because of this? Thanks.

He could absolutely still be accepted, as long as he is enrolled in college. He would need to disclose his epilepsy after being accepted so they don't assign him a role where it could be a safety issue. There are plenty of positions he could do, nothing where he might have to operate a motor vehicle and possibly no attractions, but merchandise, F&B, custodial, housekeeping, front desk, etc. all could be options. Definitely more he could do than what he can't. If he is hired, he should let his managers know of his disability so they can be prepared to help if needed, if he were to have a seizure. Hopefully not, but better safe than sorry.

He can definitely still participate. I don't remember if it would come up during the application, but he should definitely list it when filling out the onboarding paperwork.
