Making the trip to Dallas for the LSU/Oregon game. It should be interesting for sure!! Gotta love the hype and will be glad when action speaks louder then words. Good luck to all this season. Enjoy.
Love college football and WDW!

Mike,

Take good notes this weekend. I am pulling for LSU tbis weekend despite the loss of Jefferson and Shepard.

Bama plays Michigan at Jerry's house first game of 2012. I have heard parking is expensive at jerry's. Lemme know.

On a broader note, the sour puss from last year wont be posting so lets hear about any college games u go to. Post pix too please. I will post the bama home games but since I am paid my job salary to be analytical I tell the truth even if it hurts me.

Tubes, u and me are on deck. I hope others chime in.

Well the first game of the 2011 season is in the books for the Alabama Crimson Tide. This game was intended to help determine the starting quarterback and it looked like AJ McCarron (last year's back-up) performed better than Phillip Sims (talented redshirt frosh). Bama won big 48-7 which surprised me a little in that I didn't think CNS would score so many points on his old team (KS is his alma mater).

On the personal side, my oldest DS is a freshman this fall at UA and a member of the Million Dollar Band (MDB). He's very talented on any low brass instrument (tuba, trombone, baritone, euphonium, etc.) but marches playing baritone. He's excited that he'll get to go on the band overnight trip to Gainesville this fall.

Also the new season has brought on another game of cat-and-mouse when it comes to tailgating. The University has restricted on-campus parking to the point where it is difficult to get close enough to the center of campus to set up a tent, table, chairs, maybe a tv and dish. Every year they have tightened the screws a little more. The big commuter lots on the edge of campus charge for parking (UA pockets the money) now $25 per car. So the mouse part for me and all other good tailgaters is to find a parking spot. Some place close enough to park and pull my stuff on a dolly to our traditional spot.

In another twist, the place we traditionally had tailgated for the last 7-8 years had signs up stating NO TAILGATING by order of the Dean of Arts & Sciences (we are near his buildings). Bummer. So we had to set up in a new spot.

So for pix, here is my son ready to go in his MDB uniform:

Here is our tailgate setup in the new location. I left the dish and tv at home Saturday since our game was so early (11:20 a.m. central kick-off) and I got there at 6:00 a.m. to set up. But the spot has a good clear line of sight to the Directv satellite for future games.

Here's the MDB on the field before the game starts. They did a nice pre-game ceremony to thank first responders from the April 27 tornado that devestated Tuscaloosa. You might be able to see the houndstooth ribbon on the 25-yard line.

Next home game is in two weeks.

Testtubes, good win for the Tigers versus Oregon.

About a week ago, we were on Rt65 around exit 259B. I believe that was home to a 'Bear'. We were on our way to Nittany Mountain. Darn ! ! I meant Fort Wilderness.

Back to Nittany Mountain. I believe a Papa lives there and the team is The Nittany Lions.

My son-inlaw is a graduate from Mount Nittany and noboby in PA can tell you what a NITTANY is. This is accepted, but it remains a mystery of life question.

Soooooooo to iritate my daughters husband "GO 'BAMA"

Good morning, all. Still unpacking and cleaning yard after returning from Dallas into wind and heavy rain due to remnants of TS Lee.
The big game was awesome and had a really great time despite the heat!
Cowboy Stadium was every bit as hyped. Prices were steep ala WDW. We were allowed into our MH parking lot near Texas Ranger ballpark around 11 pm Thursday night after the Rangers' game. Got really lucky there.

We tailgated all day Friday and Saturday and just tried to stay hydrated the whole day. Traffic did not get bad until mid afternoon on Saturday. Parking lots did not open for parking until noon and most cars did not arrive til after 3:00.

We left for the stadium at 5:00 because everyone has to go through security which took about ten minutes. There are separate lines for males and females and three different lines that are staggered at the entrance. (total of 6 lines)

There really is not a bad seat inside and the huge screen is GREAT. Also played back reviewable plays just as you can see at home on tv. It was the best of both worlds with tv closeups and, of course, the live performance with the electricity-charged atmosphere with the loud crowd and performance by the band. Loved it all.

Gotta love the band at football games because they really lead the cheers and the cheerleaders and the crowd plays their parts.

Good luck to all this season. Love college football and WDW!!

Sorry, no pics.

College Bands. I am going back a few years, possibly 20.

I saw, and I don't know where, FAM U in action (Florida A & M).

Question: Are they still around and are they still that gooooooood ! ! !

The polls definitely look interesting, but it is way too early to get excited at this point. Making the trip to BR this weekend for home opener.

All the other games this weekend should be great to watch and the weather will be cooperating on Saturday for great tailgating. Hope everyone has a good time watching their teams. Good luck to all!

Love college football and WDW!!

P.S. john59, I have never seen or heard Florida A&M band. However, I do enjoy LSU and visiting bands' halftime shows.

After a somewhat of a nail-biting win Thursday night, this LSU fan is kicking back to enjoy all the road test games today. Miss. St. is quickly improving and made for an interesting game!! Many teams have must win games and for football lovers, it doesn't get much better than this. Good luck to all!

Love college football and WDW!

Great day for college football. Been watching GameDay since 9am. Good Luck for everyone today.

GO VOLS!!

:cheer2:

I am home tonight after watching Bama dismantle Arkansas 38-14. I wasnt really sure about how Bama was given the three weak teams we had played.

But the defense was suffocating. And Bama scored a TD in all three phases: offense, defense, and special teams. Arky wasnt a bad team but just reduced to one dimensional - passing - vs Bama.

Bama plays an improving FL Gator team next Saturday night.

I get to sleep in tomorrow morning. :cheer2:

:yay:

Coming up Rt 79 through WV, the pick-up trucks were flying to Morgantown. I believe #16 is playing #2.

The Mountaineers may have a tough go with LSU.

I may catch the game when we get home at 8PM. LSU looks tough in the road games. They could be a #1.

As an LSU fan it was a great weekend of football. Enjoyed the game with family and friends. I also know how disappointing losing a close game can be.
There were some good ones to watch! Really looking forward to the matchup between Alabama and Florida before LSU gets its crack at them. Good luck to all next weekend even though some are going to lose. It will be fun and somewhat nail-biting as we watch it unfold. Gotta love college football!!

Yesterday was a beautiful day/night for college football. The weather was wonderful in Tuscaloosa and looked so across the South from what I could gather.

Bama beat the 'Dores 34-0 but I came away impressed with Vandy after seeing them in person. They seem well coached, hard hitting, and executed the offense pretty well in spurts. Of course, you don't get admitted to Vandy if you are a dummy (no Sociology majors here) so they have a lot of smart kids to develop. Looking down their schedule I hope they make a bowl game but the Wake Forest game, which I would have put down as a Vandy win, moves into my questionable category since Wake beat Florida State last night.

Testtubes, were you at the LSU/FL game? Reports from there on Tigerdroppings say they LSU student sectioin was chanting "We Want Bama". They'll get their chance soon. Speaking of which, I sold my 4 Bama-LSU tickets for a low 4-figure check. Yep, took the money. Not that I'm scared of LSU (it should be an epic game) but I have a trip to the Fort planned next spring and that money will just about pay for my campsite and 2-day theme park tix for the entire family. :woohoo:

My son marched in the Homecoming Parade yesterday in the Alabama Million Dollar Band and of course I was bursting with pride. He seems to be enjoying it and had lots of stories to tell about his first band overnight road trip/game to Gainesville last week. Hope he keeps his grades up too.

Hey, Ed, how does your son like Bama? My daughter has Alabama on her short list of schools for next year (short meaning two) and has been watching all the Bama games this fall (including one - North Texas? - that she had to stream on ESPN3 because it wasn't televised up here). She loved it when she visited, but we're always eager to get feedback because we've found very few people up here (northern IL) who are familiar with the school.

mdoc,

I'll reply to you via PM so we don't tie up this thread.

Greetings all. Returned home about noon today (Sunday) after weekend on the BR campus. Great fun game with much wind that kept temps nice and comfy.
Bama ed, I never heard the chant for BAMA, but there's lots of stuff that comes from the crazy student section that I don't hear or understand. It probably goes without saying that most of the media wants both teams (LSU and Bama) to be undefeated when they meet.
We will not be at the game but have family including older son and his wife who are going in Nov. It should be a good one!!
Gotta love college football and WDW!

Well Bama got past 10-R-C after sleepwalking through the first half. I'm glad they got the slow start out of their system. LSU humiliated Auburn yesterday so both teams are cleared for the match-up in two weeks (both have byes coming up next weekend).

As I said I have already sold my four tickets (to pay for my next Fort Wilderness visit) and was not planning to tailgate (in the mass of humanity that will show up). But family and friends are already talking about wanting me to set up so they have a home base. So I guess I will be there.

Testtubes, Bama has an early 3.5 point edge according to Vegas (which is about the margin for a home field advantage). ESPN GameDay with Chris, Coach, Herbie, EA, Desmond, and Pollack is slated to be there starting on the Thursday before (rather than the typical Friday before). ESPN GameDay Radio will be set up on campus as well. Friend of mine who works on the UA grounds staff said they are expecting 200,000 people on campus for the game of which 102,000 will be in the stadium at gametime (rest will be milling around the tailgate).

I've got plenty of time to plan my menu. Let's hope for good weather.

Roll Tide! :cheer2:

From what we are hearing here you probably sold your tickets too early. The TP is quoting some people are paying up to $5000 per ticket.
This is going to be a definite nail biter.

Good morning. Lots of upsets this past weekend!! Die-hard fans had hearts broken. At least next Saturday (Nov. 5) will not be an upset for either team but just a heartbreaker for one!!
We will be watching from home. Those of you at the game or on campus, have a great time tailgating for us. Win or lose, be careful of distraught fans afterwards. There are always some crazies in the bunch!!
Love college football and WDW!

Congratulations are due to the LSU Tigers. They played a tough game and their stronger special teams and qb experience showed. Personally I'm not in favor of a rematch if the opportunity comes along. What would happen if Bama won? Would we have a third game as a tie-breaker?

Hope they can get by the Hogs at the end of the year. That game has been tough lately.

Hope your team wins Saturday! :cheer2:

Bama ED

PS - the tailgating scene was crazy Saturday in Tuscaloosa. The long lines for bathrooms all afternoon were a sign of the super-sized crowd that was there.
