College Applications...

I know there's a few high school seniors out there and as the school year starts college apps are on nearly everyone's list of things to do. Figured we could use a place to talk about it and stuff, or just college things in general.

So, I started seeing what I need to get in order for my applications today. Funny thing is, I keep adding and subtracting schools from my list as I change my mind on what I want to major in. I've got it down to two majors, either Sports Management or Photography, possibly double major. I know that whatever school I go has to have both of these a major which ruled out three of my five schools. I know I'll get into the two schools left, but I'm still worried about something. Don't know what but I'm worried and anxious about something to do with college applications. So right now, I'm applying to University of Minnesota and Central Michigan University, probably University of Michigan as well. But I'm not sure on U of Mich. Ugh, I wish this would just figure itself out...

haha wow you're so much further tdhan I am! I haven't even narrowed down my majors yet so I have a long list of colleges. Now that I think about it, I'm so behind. I skipped my senior picture day and I still have to sign up to take the SATs again. Good luck though =D

I'm not a senior (junior) but I've been busy visiting schools/narrowing down majors.

I'm thinking some sort of a Theatre Design degree or engineering, like you possible double major.

All I know really is I want to go to school in SoCal, preferably the LA area (which narrows it down quite a bit)

I'm a junior, but me and my friends have been really looking over at our college options and what we need. We all took the ACT this summer, and did well. We are able to apply for scholarships when we're juniors are we not?

I'm planning on majoring in journalism and minoring in some sort of creative writing or literature.

I'm a junior, so no applications yet, but I've started looking, and I have an idea of what kind of campus I like. However, I've gotta go to a school with a good science program because I plan on majoring in biology. As for a minor, I'm switching on and off between spanish and music.

I'm a college freshman and one of the things you should do is consider going in with an undeclared major. I didn't, but there isn't a penalty for doing it and for some people it's easier. Keep things that you know you like in mind when picking a school, but don't tie yourself to one school because of a single program.

And I have to laugh at Shelby's post. I'm a double major with a minor, too. I'm going to be majoring in French and International Affairs with a minor in Education. Although, I'm not positive about the minor just yet.

But I still haven't figured out what kind of school I'm looking for, like big vs. small.

Anyone have any advice on how to narrow my search?

The only problem with theatre design, is if you do the direct program (usually a BFA), you can't major or minor in anything else. Your major is your life. You have to constantly work on plays and sets and costumes.

best thing to do is just visit a few schools. See if you like a big university or a small liberal arts college. See if you like a big city or some place in the country. After that then try to narrow your search.

Haha, I'm pretty much in the same boat as you. I know I want to stay in the New England area and that is pretty much it. One of the majors I'm looking into is journalism too, but my problem is that my high school doesn't have a school news paper. I'm thinking that might be an issue if I apply for that as a major.

I am also a senior. I know I want to major in pre-medicine. I want to stay in Ohio. I have it narrowed down to two colleges. Lake Erie College and Urbana University.

It won't be. When you apply for college, 9 times out of 10, they don't look too closely at your major. Kids go in undecided all the time. It's super common. If you go in with a declared major of journalism, they aren't going to look at your history with the subject. there's no prerequisite to get into most programs in college. considering that journalism is a LA major (at most colleges) it's nothing you need to have a super strong background in (like if you were going into pre-med you'd probably need to go in with a strong background in the sciences and maths).

I have to have a portfolio to get into Theatre Design.. which is the major reason I don't think I'd get in. I have a ton of play experience, building sets, helping design sets, but nothing to prove it.

the only thing that i can think of that it would really help would be if you were applying for journalism scholarships. but there are so many general scholarships/fafsa financial aid, that you don't really have to do those.

um. i dont think you can apply for scholarships through schools untill you apply. i know most of my scholarships are ones you recieve when you apply (like a scholarship that covers out of state tuition )
