College Application Question

I have a question for anyone out there that has been through the college application process. Does it mean anything when a college contacts you to set up an interview or is this something some colleges do for all applicants? I know that we are just getting anxious during this waiting period, but wondered if this could be an indicator of interest or should my daughter not get her hopes up yet?

If anyone has insight or experience with this I would appreciate your input.

Has she applied for scholarship to the school? If so, it could mean that she is in the running for the scholarship.

Or, it could mean that they just want more information. Small school or large? Large schools often don't have the resources to give everyone an interview. Small schools might be more accomodating. In anycase, it is probably a good sign that they are certainly interested or at least willing to hear more from her before they decide. If they weren't, she would have just gotten a rejection letter.

Did your daughter receive an awards package from them? Did she apply and was accepted?? :confused3

An interview doesn't mean they will be accepted to that college. My DS had an interview for 5 schools and was not accepted to any of them...he is a freshman in college this year and loves it! The college that he was accepted to didn't give an interview, but he received a full merit scholarship in the honors program!, so you just never know what they are thinking? LOL :grouphug: Good Luck to your DD with the interview, they are a learning experience. My DS's interview for Harvard lasted an hour and a half!

Thanks for the replies. The interview was for Princeton. She has applied there but it is one of her stretch schools. It sounds like this may be routine for them? I just don't want her to get her hopes too high.

Interviews are fairly common with the Ivy League schools. They often use their local alumni to conduct them. So it's hard to read anything into it.

Best of luck to your daughter in her college choices. My daughter is also a senior and we're going through all of this too. Even though she has 2 acceptances and we're going for a college visit on Thursday, I can't stand the waiting for the other schools. I'm not a patient person!!

I second the link that Mystery Machine posted. Lots of first-hand information available there.

Good luck to your DD

Thanks for the link to the college confidential website. It is very eye-opening but also very intimidating. Wow! Many of those posters have fabulous SAT and ACT scores and are still so worried about getting into schools. Reading the message board there has made me more nervous for my daughter's chances. It looks like the next month or so will be nerve wracking.

My dd is a HS Freshman and I am learning the verbage right now with scholarships, SAT's, SAT2's, essays, EC's, etc....
It is VERY intimidating!!! And they don't hold back with the info..good and bad, I guess.

Good Luck to your DD!!!!!
