Has anyone else had their documents for travel this year and only had a voucher for the gift card?

Was really disappointed to get our documents today to find a voucher that has to be redeemed at World of Disney at DTD :(

Think we qualified for this when we booked last year for our September trip this year but there's nothing about it in my holiday invoice so I'm waiting to see what comes through when I get tickets and stuff.

Just got my tickets through the post today, including the voucher for the $100 gift card. It says on the voucher that you have to collect the $100 gift card from World of Disney at Downtown Disney. Anybody know if that is the only place you can pick it up, or can you redeem that voucher in the hotels too? Don't really want to make a special trip to DTD just to pick up the gift card if I don't have to.

Maybe they had a problem where they were accidentally sending out too many gift cards to people...

:goodvibes

Merged the threads as it appears WDTC UK have a new policy...

Snap!

Seems to be a change of policy - possibly hoping people don't bother, maybe?

Or could it be because the tickets were sent early - I specifically asked for my tickets to be sent early, because we leave a couple of weeks before we arrive at Disney.

Can't find it stated anywhere that you'll receive a gift card before leaving or a voucher to redeem but I believe some Virgin customers received a voucher which they had to exchange with the Virgin rep's on arrival at MCO.

I expected a voucher last year and was surprised to receive the actual gift card with my documents. Despite them saying you can only collect at DTD, I'd be inclined to ask at check in anyway. There are a number of Will Call type services which stipulate specific redemption points, yet I've been able to get them sorted at the front desk at our resort. All they can say is no and that leaves you no worse off than where you are now :goodvibes

Yes this :thumbsup2

We traveled with VH last year and had to collect our gift card from the VH reps at MCO

I received my travel documents about 2 weeks ago and the actual gift card was included. So I'm guessing it is new policy too :)

Does anyone know if you can use the card for paying the bill in a Park restaurant?

Yes you can. You can also use them for tips, if on the free DDP, but I've heard that is a bit of a hassle (I prefer to leave my tips in cash at the table - I always wonder if servers actually see any tips that get added via cards).

I'm not checking in at the Poly until 10 days into my vacation, but I was toying with the idea of going to DTD for one evening whilst staying on I-Drive anyway. So this has just made up my mind to go there one night before our Disney check-in. Will probably use some of the $100 at Wolfgang Pucks Express, after some of the rave reviews about that place on here. Then I'm sure the wife will spend the rest (plus more!) in the Christmas shop.

I think the tips do go to the servers. Never really questioned tipping on a card and the servers are always very appreciative so I don't think it's an issue.

Won't you have a dining plan when you check into the Poly, or are you going room only? We love WPE but I would never pay OOP for it. DD and I average over $50 for the 2 of us for a meal there. Now the Christmas shop ... that's a good place to use your gift card :)

Yes, we are on the DDP, and planning on going to T-Rex one night for a meal on it.

But I thought it would be nice to spend a bit more time at DTD, especially to browse the shops etc., and realised that we could probably only fit it in if we went there on another day for dinner one night whilst staying off-site. Once the wife gets into a Christmas shop, she's there for hours . At DLP she must have been in the one on Main St. for 3 hours.

We have a separate 'holiday Xmas tree' where we hang decorations collected from all our holidays, and the Disney ones are the outstanding ones (although we did get some great decorations from Buckingham Palace a couple of years ago too).

I wonder if they've changed the policy because gift cards were mysteriously disappearing. Both trips last year, the gift card was in the Mickey Mail but I know there were a few people complaining their card was missing. I guess if they give you a voucher, they can check that the people getting the gift card are the right people.

I have a daughter like that lol. I love taking photos so my solution last year was to let her loose in a shop and head off with my camera and she had to stay in the store and message me when she was done or meet me at the entrance at a set time. Win-win ;)
