Colds after Disney??

I'm going to go get the Flu Mist toady. We are going in early December. If I remember correctly it takes at least 3-weeks for the mist to take effect so any one who is headed to WDW in Dec needs to get theirs immediately.

Washing your hands is probaby the biggest deal. Don't forget to wash them after going through any buffet lines before you eat. This includes BEFORE and AFTER you go up for seconds. The spoons, tongs, laddles, etc. are covered with germs mainly becuase people don't do this. They put their fingers in their mouths then go back and handle the utensils, talk about direct person to person contact! The other thing is to try to keep your hands out of your face while on vacation as much as possible, rubbing your nose, lips, etc.. The Dr. told me this is how/where most of the germs get ingested.

I was sick after I got back last year too, on Christmas Day for that matter, no fun...

Ted.

We got back on Sunday, and my youngest came down with a cold on Friday, the oldest on Sunday, myself and my husband on Monday. The kids are still hacking, dripping, complaining of sore throats, and not eating. I carried around a bottle of antibacterial hand cleanser and used most of it up, but it apparantly didn't get the job done.

A week of being sick is a hard price to pay for a week of fun. Oh well, sick kids are part of the job I guess.

We flew to WDW on 10/14 and flew home 10/23. On 10/19 I woke up with a sore throat and it morphed into what I affectionately called "kennel cough". Ds had a sore throat and cough by the time we came home, but we had been sharing drinks. We came home on a Sunday and by Tuesday DS was running a low grade fever, but that seemed to clear up.

We have been home a week and a half. Yesterday DH felt terrible, DS didn't feel well and LOOKED like he didn't feel well. Today I feel "off" - headache and just not quite right. But if this is something we caught at WDW it had a heck of an incubation.

None of us were sick after the January trip. :confused3

I don't know if I caught it in Disney, or on the plane, but my last DW trip, I ended up with a killer sinus headache on my birthday no less, and ended up with a doozy of a cold afterwards, NOT FUN!

My most recent trip to DL, MY BEST FRIEND GAVE ME HER COLD!! She was sick for the first half of the trip, then I got sick, and believe me, it isn't fun travelling when you are all stopped up! I was popping Dayquil all day the day we left, and was SO glad to be home!!

You can usually guarantee my DS has a cold a week before we go, the remains of which he has whilst there, and just for good measure, he usually picks up a whole new one to take back with him.

He has a cold (really nasty cough) right now. He has had it for about a week now, so he is over the infectious stage, but guess what...we leave for Disney on Thursday. So I am sure he will be getting another one!

EVERY SINGLE GOSH DARN TRIP......
We are always sick when we get home....or worse during the trip.
Especially if we have an extended stay at Disney.

We always need a vacation AFTER our vacation!

:cold:

We got home last Sunday. My DH and DS13 both have nasty colds with coughs. It started on the next to last day. The CM mentioned working there and not getting sick from all the germs, but I think that's like the elementary teachers. They are around so many germs that they seem to become immune. Just a thought :flower:

We all came home with that cough. But it has been almost 2 weeks now. My cough is gone. DH sounds HORRIBLE, but he wasn't really sick on the trip or immediately after.

While I thought DS was going to be able to pull out of his sore throat, cough, sort-of-illness it has gone the other way! He was diagnosed with strep on Thursday which I am SURE he caught because his immunity was lowered from the trip. We are having a rampant outbreak of strep around here, so he might have ended up with it anyway, but a week of Disney with less sleep than usual was probably a contributing factor. :guilty:

He does seem to be feeling better since he has had a few days of antibiotics.

FYI - for those of you interested in Airborne I saw it at Sam's. MUCH cheaper than it is at Walgreen's or CVS. I have never tried it, but I might in the future.

..........and to think I've been telling my family that we will all feel "better" when we hit that fresh Disney air!!!! :confused3

Always worried about getting sick before or during our vacation.

Last time, on our last day, one of my girls got a stomach bug, a bad one.
This was our favorite rides day, and we had fast passes from DVC we were gonna use too. She got worse so we just checked out and headed home which was 7 hours away. Then one by one, each of us started getting sick.
So glad there are plenty of rest areas along the interstate, we hit every single one between the 4 of us.

Not a great way to end a vacation.

OH NO! OCDer with terrible anxiety here! Something else I didn't think of. Looks like I'm stocking up on Cold Eze, Sudafed, Immodium, Pepto, Tylenol and maybe I'll try that Airborne stuff. Why did I have to read this?!?

An earlier poster mentioned not touching your face and I can't agree more! Avoiding contamination on your hands is a losing battle. You absolutely must wash your hands often & WITH SOAP, but lets face it, you are going to touch something contaminated 2 seconds later. The big key to avoiding sickness though is to NEVER put your fingers near your eyes, nose or mouth unless you just scrubbed. I'm a big fan of the anti-bacterial hand wipes when you can't get to soap & water.

If you do feel that unmistakable feeling of a sore throat where you just know you have caught something, try the Zicam nose swabs, they are like a miracle cure if you use them within 24 hrs of the first simptom. The best price on Zicam is at WalMart.

Stay Healthy Everybody!!! :sunny:

We were SOOO careful on our trip last June...always washing hands...and all three of us came back with strep throat! It wasn't the souvenir we wanted to bring home.

BTW, I'm an elementary school teacher as well...thought I had a pretty good immune system. Next time, I'll be stocking up on that Zicam stuff!
