Coldest/Quietest Resort?

I am looking for something a bit peculiar, I suppose.

I want a room that gets icy cold. I am talking cold enough to hang meat in the room! I understand that some of the thermostats shut off when no one is in the room. Has anyone figured out something to get around this? I can't stand a hot/stale room!

In addition, I would prefer a somewhat quiet room. I don't want to hear the man next door (i.e. MY DAD!) snoring! Will I have to bring a fan to cancel out the noise?

So where do you think the coldest or quietest rooms are?

Do they have comfy beds?

Are there enough pillows?

The coldest room we've ever had was at the Yacht Club. We came in from the parks one day, DH turns the thermostat down (He likes it icy cold, too!) and we all took showers and laid down for a little nap. It got so cold that it actually woke me up! We had to turn the air off and open the patio doors to warm the room up enough so that we could get ready.

But....the rooms at the Yacht Club aren't that soundproof. Of course we had noisy neighbors (20 somethings who wanted to party all night and fight all day!), but the hotel staff was excellent in getting them to quiet down.

The 2 quietest rooms I've had at WDW have been at the Animal Kingdom Lodge and Port Orleans French Quarter. We only spent one night at the AKL and the air was cold enough for DH. The air didn't seem to get as cold at POFQ, but it was always nice and cool in our room.

We've never had to override any thermostats. We've found that even if they shut off while you're gone, the rooms cool down very quickly when you return.

The beds were very comfortable in all 3 of the above mentioned as well as every other Disney property we've stayed at. We've always had a lot of pillows as well. We have to give YC the highest marks here, though. We thought their beds were the most comfortable and there were plenty of pillows on the bed as well as extras in the closet.

I read in another thread that if you buy a balloon, and let it float around your room when you are not there, it tricks the motion detector into thinking there is someone in the room and the room stays cool.

We bought a small 10 inch fan, and tied a baloon to the fan so that it was constantly moving. We were staying at the Contemp. and it was very hot until we did this and the rest of the trip was great.

Wow you people are smart!!! I would never have thoght of thid. My dh likes the room to be freezing too (as in meat packing refridgeration). We stayed in Jamaica once where they controlled the thermostat and it basicalu turned off at night and were miserable.

Making mental note--buy fan, balloon. I shold add, we are staying at SSR. Is this even an isssue there?

PS. HOw small was this fan?

Port Orleans Riverside and French Quarter have the older style air conditioners. They run all day long without motion detectors. Our room was always cold when we came back from the parks. Those rooms are also quiet - unlike Coronado where we heard our neighbors at all hours.

we had icy cold temps at both pop century and pofq... i mean ICY! (where the windows dripped w/condensation!) and it was delightful!

the only noise i heard at pofq was the people above me (bouncing a ball at 3am!) which, unless i am travelling w/someone w/mobility issues, has now taught me to ask for a room on the top floor... it definitely reduces the noise (or possibility of noise)...

This is good to know for POR!! I was all prepared to override the system or buy a balloon/fan to set up.

We also like it cold, but we're staying at AKL/V & I heard they don't allow ballons at the resort. But I remember reading on here that you can override the thermostat so it isn't on a motion sensor & I found that post...

Push power button and the temp. down button at the same time.You will see the letters "BP"where the temp display is......then just sent the temp you want.Good luck.

We just returned from CSR and had to do the same thing every 48 hours. Maintenance Dept. told us the BP only works for 48 hours. Which resort are you staying at?

Just FYI;
OKW rooms can be set at any temp you desire and remain there for as long as you want. Spent 7 days there 1st week of Aug and set the room to 67° Felt great after returning from the golf course in 95° heat.

Also found this one which is slightly different than the one I posted earlier...

"You hold the F/C button in until it says Bp then let it go. When it comes back on it'll be in "Cent" so you need to push it once more to get the "F" reading. It then works like a regular thermostat. Not sure about Pop, but he bypass at SSR is good for 72 hours. If you can't get it to work call for Maintenance, they will come up and bypass it for you if you ask them to."

The Wilderness Lodge rooms with a standard view has been known to be one of the quietest resorts on-site. As far as the room with temps for "hanging meat", bring the fan.

We stay at the Swan and the rooms are always cold!!! My DH yells at me because I'm always raising the thermostat.

The heavenly beds are wonderful!!! It's the only beds I have ever slept in during my WDW stays that I actually can sleep comfortably!!!

I'm one of those posters that have mentioned the balloon because it works! Just let it float around the room and the sensors think someone is in the room.

The Boardwalk at the very end of the building would fit your needs perfectly. It's a hike from the lobby, but it's very quiet and very cold.

Agreed. The BWV and SSR are both very, very quiet--and COLD!

In response to those that say WL is quiet.... We had a wood's view and could hear our neighbors (who came in drunk at 2am) very easily. I would not rate the walls there as quiet.

In response to thost that say AKL is quiet.... I could hear toilets flushing in the rooms above us.

The quietest room I've ever had was a BWI...top floor facing Epcot. We never heard anyone next door and rarely a peep in the hallway.

Don't know about cold rooms though...we've been able to keep all of ours comfortable. Well, except GF that had the air turn off while we slept....and I had to get up a couple of times to get it going again.

I can confirm this. Just got back yesterday from WDW and we stayed at PO:RS. The room stayed cold and I never heard any noise from outside the room. The only motion sensor in the room was in the bathroom and controlled the fan.

We stayed at Port Orleans French Quarter and Yacht Club.

If you leave the fan on overnight, it is like the ARCTIC in there. We were freezing cold when we woke up.

Neither were particularly loud, but the better hotel IMO is DEFINITELY Yacht Club, even if it is slightly less cold.
