I'm training for the 1/2 marathon and it's gettin' DARN COLD in PA!! However I still have to get outside for those training walks!

I've tried sweat pants (BRRRR!) and I've tried jeans with silk long underwear underneath (still brrrrr!).

What is everyone wearing to keep your legs warm on these walks?????

Hi Doe! I am trying to follow the Marathoners for Mortals suggestion of shorts for 40ºF and higher. Pants for 39ºF and below.

That being said there are running tights/pants like these that should help. Check places like REI or Galyans or a running store for more choices. :) I hope that helps, and remember Cotton Kills!

How about a wind pant with the long underwear? Maybe if you could cut the wind factor down, it wouldn't feel so bad? Nothing worse than not enjoying your walks!!:(

I hear ya, Doe! It's getting mighty chilly here in SW Ontario  I've found that if it's over 2 degrees celcius ... I think that's somewhere in your mid-30's, I wear only windpants. But as the temp starts to drop, I will either do the long underwear under them, or use my lycra pants with my windpants over top. I tried last week just wearing some exercise pants, and I found that the windpants were much more effective.

I remember last Jan doing our first 5 mile walk in the freezing rain. I was wearing sweat pants with windpants over top, turtleneck, sweatshirt, heavy winter coat and boots ... now THAT was a workout :hyper:

It was a lovely 7 degrees here on Saturday when I did my 6 miles. I wore a long sleeve t-shirt with my windbreaker and after an hour, I was truly HOT, and the longer sleeves were really bugging my wrists. Still working on the "what's comfortable in what weather" scenarios ... hopefully I'll be so darned experienced that choosing my attire for WDW will be a piece of cake.

You all should know that 7 degrees celsius is actually mid-40s fahrenheit. Very nice for mid-November. It was a couple of degrees warmer than that on Sunday and I wore a t-shirt and wind breaker and was quite comfortable. I have lined windpants (an old pair of DH's) and I find them to be very effective so far. I'm not so concerned about the walking as I am about the standing around for two hours before the actual race.

doreen -- treat yourself to some good cold-weather athletic pants -- you deserve them

I wear, rather hideously come to think of it, those cotton spandex stretch pants. When it hits a bit colder, 30s, i'll probably if I have to wear my windbreaker (not lined) pants over tops those but i hate bulky, scratchy sounding pants when i'm excersing. i'm cold by nature and when i get home and peel my pants off my legs are cold to the touch; but not bothersome when I walk.

i focus on keeping my ears and hands warm. I have ear muffs that have the band for behind the head and lightweight gloves.

this morning at low 40s I wore my pants, long-sleeve lightweight wicking mock turtleneck with a lightweight sweatshirt over top and I got hot and took off my earmuffs and gloves.

i think key is breaking the wind if it's windy where you live. it gets windy here

Do what I did... move to FL!!
