Cold & humidity?

I'm hoping someone can help me with this. On one of these boards a poster said something about when humidity mixes with cold, it feels a lot colder. Is this true? Will 55 feel like 32? I would have thought that Florida's humidity would make 55 feel warmer. I'm really worried about this because I hate to be cold. I can't stress enough how much I can't tolerate the cold, so this has me a little worried. Any opinions or knowledge of this would be helpful. Thanks!

It feels colder because humidity makes it feel damp. And being damp always makes you colder. 55 will not feel like 32. However, you'll feel chilled at 55. doubt that you'll feel so cold you can't tolerate it.

You will feel chilled and honestly if you do feel really cold then you can always buy a sweatshirt. That's what we ended up having to do last Thanksgiving. Even though I packed for cold weather (and it was colder) I did not pack good enough for the nights at the parks.

I hate it when it's damp and cool...it's like it just goes right through you...I live in MN so I know!!! Just wear something warmer...I find in that kind of weater, wearing a winter hat or beanie knit cap really makes you feel warmer without putting on the layers or heavy winter coat...

When it's cold in FL, it feels like the stated temperature most of the time. I don't think the humidity makes it feel colder. In fact, the sun is shining MORE in the winter here, so if you're standing in it, it can really warm you up.

Well, for US it does feel colder! We live in a state with almost no humidity. We've gone to WDW many many times (at different times of the year). DD20 freezes in May, freezes in September......we are used to temps that can be around 110.....but something about the humidity combined with the air conditioning........freezes her.

When we go in December or January, she is wearing numerous layers and does not take them off even when the outside temps are 70-80's. The humidity.

For us, it is just because we hardly ever HAVE humidity and that makes it feel very different!

well thanks everyone. I think I will be like the last poster who's daughter freezes the whole time. I just never even thought of humidity doing that but what you all say absolutely makes sense, now that you point out the dampness that really is the definition of humidity. I just always equate it to heat because in Ohio that's the only time I hear the word mentioned. If they talk about humidity in the winter, I haven't picked up on it.

Oh well, it is what it is. We leave in six days, so I will take your advice and buy lots of sweatshirts, hats, and a good coat. I am happy I asked though, so now I'll be prepared for that to happen. :sad2:

Usually the cold days in Florida are when a cold front passes and cools it off, after it passes you usually have a sunny, cloudless sky,and as long as you're in the sun it's quite pleasant. There are days when it's very windy and even with sun it'll feel plenty cold.At night when the sun goes down you will feel the chill for sure, especially with wind.I've heard that Florida having higher humidity a cold day will feel colder than other places rumor.I think it's probably true if comparing Florida to dry places out west like out Vegas or California, but usually when it's cold in Florida the humidity isn't that much more humid than most other places.

Our last trip in November I froze with 50 degree temps at night. It was very windy and while waiting for Illuminations at Epcot my husband was running trying to get me some hot chocolate just so I could hold on to something warm. Even he was a little chilly and he is very hot natured. We'll be down in December and I'm planning on taking lots of warm clothes just to be on the safe side.
