Cold and curious - what is your thermostat set to when you are home?

We've been keeping the temp set at 68 but I am tempted to crank it up just a little . . . I should say we are not used to weather this cold for this long - which also means our house is not built for these temps either . . .

If it was up to me 64. I find that to be comfortable.

My DH is a different story....He cranks it up to 68 or 69. If it is that warm, I walk around in a t-shirt while everyone else is bundled up.

67 - it was 62 until the kids were born! We are on oil heat in CT and it is so darn expensive. Would love to have it higher. :). When we aren't home, heat is 58-60.

We leave it at 60f, but we do have a few space heaters when we are in two rooms and the basement. Next winter, I'm looking into using the fireplace or getting a wood or pellet stove... The ice storm in PA has made that a priority to me.

we keep ours down pretty low, if it hits 60, I will turn on the heater to warm up the house to about 64 and then off it goes again. We all have room heaters and those help but one of our sons LOVES it cold...and when we walk into his room, dang BRRRRRR...I am so happy the weather has been warmer here in North Texas, but now, the 50's and 60's feel like summer weather...lol

We live in CT and have natural gas heat. When hubby is home, he likes to keep it set at 55. I'm always turning it up to about 62/63 and then he says it's too hot and turns it back down. :lmao: If I'm cold, I sometimes just turn on the little electric heater near me and then I'm happy.

When I go to work at the group home, the heat it is always set on 72, and I'm always baking, so I end up turning it down.

We keep ours between 70 and 72. We are in Oklahoma and obviously couldn't handle it up north!

64 is our standard. We "splurge" when company comes over and turn it up to 68. I prefer my lower heating bills.

Wow...you guys are tough!! We have natural gas heat which is very affordable right now, but my family is always warm...we keep it at 70 and I'm cold...sometimes push it up to 71 or 72 if no one's around.

Oil heat at work but my office is the coldest...so I tend to turn the thermostat up to 73 or 74 just to make my office warmer...

perhaps I should be down south!!

THIS! Just got our electric/gas bill for last month for a nearly 3000 sq ft house, 2 story and it was $165, yay me! That's more $$ for our Disney trip :cool1:

My husband had the woodstove cranking and it hit 78 degrees in here earlier, I had to open the door to let some of the heat out! Now it's a comfy 74 with shorts and tshirt on!

Ours is set on 66. Heat bill was surprisingly low last month. Been using space heaters to make up the difference sometimes... like right now sitting in front of electric fireplace.

I put on sweats and then set the heat to whatever temp I'm comfortable at. Of course, since I was born and raised in Florida, that's about 74-75 during the day :lmao: Plus I have to keep it fairly warm to keep my hands from hurting, because wearing gloves 24/7 just isn't viable.

At night I drop it down to about 68. I like it cool to sleep, I can breathe better.

70. If you are comfortable with less that is great. But life is too short to be cold. I'd rather scrimp on other things like cable, eating out, etc... If it meant the difference between being warm and comfortable in my house vs being cold.

I'd have to be pretty hard up to choose being cold. I'll scrimp elsewhere.

Again, if you are comfortable at 62... More power to you. As long as your comfortable. But I'd rather save a few bucks elsewhere than deal with a lingering chill.

:thumbsup2 I can't stand being cold. I keep the heat at 71.

In the summer, DH says he is not going to be hot in his own house, so he keeps it cooler than I would. But he wears shorts and a t-shirt most of the winter so I won't be cold and can turn the heat up. :goodvibes

When we used our oil heat it was at 62 to 63. We are using a woodstove this year and it typically keeps us around 73 when we are home to tend to it. I am much happier with the warmer house as I HATE winter. So, it is making it more tolerable, especially this winter, since its been so cold and snowy!

I agree! Life is too short to be cold. I keep it at 74 during the day and 71 at night or if no one is home. Actually our gas bill wasn't that much higher, we expected worse. The house is 3000 square ft but with catherdal ceilings so it seems cool even at 74.

70 usually. I really need to program it though to make better use of the energy.

Although.... It's been so warm, we are saving a lot of money this year. Although, that doesn't account for the money I seemingly wasted on long sleeve shirts for my kids. We've only had a handful of days under 75 since Christmas. I have friends that turned on the AC today.
