Colbert/Steward Rally in Washinton?

We watch both shows on comedy central and I love them , they are both clowns and I would love to see them in person! I voted for Colbert when he was on the nominations for SC for president:rolleyes1, I can only imagine what the country might look like if one of those clowns were president:rotfl2:

I don't know, those "clowns" seem to sound a whole lot smarter than a bunch of people in the news!!

I think they would do pretty good.

Well, I, my DH and 12 year old DS will be there. My DS has more political savvy than most adults we know. He loves TDS and Colbert Report and wants to make his own sign. We're staying with friends for the night since it's a 3 hour one way trip for us from the shore. Maybe I should put a lime green mickey head on my sign so other DISers can spot me!

Personally I think that the attendance will be HUGE. Almost every college kid in the Mid-Atlantic states will probably show up, and a whole lot of the younger students, too. My DS has even asked to go, and we're in MISSOURI, for crying out loud. (We won't be going. I'd love to, but we have prior committments that date that will keep us here.)

I think they will break 600,000 easily. If Garth Brooks can pull 750,000 in Central Park, these two and the celebrity friends who decide to pitch in will surely do better than that.

I so wish I could be there -- but we will be at Disney. I even joked with DH that we were going to have to reschedule our trip.

I cannot speak on this event, but I have attended a number of very large rallies on the mall (9/12 Tea Party/Glenn Beck/etc.) and never felt a second of worry. The 'mall' is a very large area and the DC police were very attentive. At least for the rallies I attended, the organizers had every thought planned out (water stations every couple hundred feet, lots of security, etc). I can't speak for the Colbert rally, but if the few rallies I've attended, you son will be fine.

Who said Glenn Beck pulled in 500,000? I thought the park police wouldn't give a crowd estimate anymore (probably because they were usually inaccurate).

I've been to very crowded 4th of July's and I remember the parade at the end of the first Gulf War. Hold on to your kids when using the Metro. It sounds like fun. You could dress up in Halloween costumes.

I'm so glad you started this thread.

I've never been to a political rally OR to D.C.

The boyfriend and I are seriously considering driving from Kentucky.

But I have no idea what I'm doing in terms of hotels/metro stations (my town only has 3 stop-lights!!!)

But we certainly do love John Stewart as well as Stephen Colbert.

Just wondering if it would be worth my effort.....

Glen Beck said that, of course! But based on air photos it was apparently just under 100,000.

You should do it!

It''ll be an adventure. :goodvibes

FWIW - the metros have helpful signage everywhere, and most chain hotels are pretty reliable. My husband really likes Best Western.

Couldn't agree more! Presenting something with humor doesn't mean that it isn't accurate...it just means more people will pay attention. Not a bad thing!

wasn't it the john stewart show,

that pointed out that one of the rallies that was "massive" and showed pictures of the crowd, seem to have transpired over several months...

because

some of the crowd pictures showed trees with leaves, and the crowd were wearing light clothing,

then some of the other pictures showed that the trees mysteriously no leaves, and the crowd was wearing jackets and other things for cold weather?:lmao:

Yes, and after Stewart pointed out that he was using the wrong footage, Hannity responded that it was an "inadvertent mistake".

This isn't the only time Fox News has had these problems, though...

I love Jon Stewart and would love to go, but I'll watch from home.

I had to endure an irritiating month (at least) of a friend loudly endorsing a rally in D.C. last month, so I do plan to plaster it all over my Facebook profile.

Oh and the other cable news networks never ever make any mistakes.

probably true.

I do like that fact that Colbert does a lot to support the troops, so maybe he will have some sort of activity along those lines.

University of Maryland, just a Metro ride away, has Homecoming that weekend. Both DD and DS were planning on going to Homecoming, as were DH and myself. DD and friends have decided to go to the rally instead.

We've been to the crowds at Cherry Blossom and survived. And DD inadvertently wnet to DC during some march and survived. I think the security is pretty good on the mall.

I am going to be there with my DS! It will be his first political rally! :rotfl: I just live a few metro stops from the mall, so if it is too crazy with a baby, I'll just go home. I also have survived taking the metro during other rallys and events, so I'm sure everything will be fine and likely a super fun time!

I'm going! But I live here.

One thing to note is that they picked Marine Corps Marathon weekend to do it. So if you're here, on Sunday, think about coming out to cheer on the marathon runners. It's a lot of fun!
