Hello,

I just had to tell somebody (ok everybody here) I got my spending money for WDW today. I cashed in all my change from the last 3 years. I had over $500 in my "piggy bank". DS had a blast!!!

I don't like to use Coinstar's machines and pay the fee, except in some supermarkets and stores where the fee is refunded in the form of a gift certificate for that store.

I actually take the time to spend most of my change normally so I don't accumulate so much that a machine is needed to count it.

Since I have the patience of a gnat, I cannot let my accumulated change sit around long enough to total $500+. Rather, I periodically count it, roll anything that is "rollable," and cash it in for paper money, which then goes in my Disney Funds envelope.

Spare change adds up fast, no matter how you save it, cash it in, etc.

Good work on savings so much and for being so patient!!!

First of all, welcome to the DIS from a fellow Marylander. We live down in Montgomery County although that may change in the next few months as we look for a place to retire!

We use our bank (Chevy Chase) which has free coin machines for anyone. I know other banks do around here also. I usually save coins for trips also and end up with anywhere from $100 to $300 for each trip.

My Dbf had a really big water jug full of change and he decided to cash it in before we went to Hawaii last summer and we dropped it off at the bank (it makes me mad that CoinStar charges a fee) b/c they said it would take a while. Anyway a couple of hours later they called and said he had over $1,200!! We almost died...he thought he had like $75 and I thought maybe $150. We had no conception of how change adds up. We called the bank back like 3 times to make sure we had heard them correctly. Now we just have a quart jar half full but hopefully by the time we head back to WDW this summer we'll have enough to cover our drinking expenses not covered by the DDP.

Yeah!! Another Marylander. I'm in Harford Co. DH used to commute to Montgomery County (Rockville) 5 to 6 days a week. It was 70 miles each way. Real Estate is sooo expensive there, there was no way we could afford to move closer to work for him. Luckily, he has company vehicle and gas card. WHEW!! Now they've moved him to Annapolis sometimes and Columbia mostly. So now his commute is only 50-55 miles. Anyway, so cool to see a fellow Marylander! Here where we are, credit unions have coin counters and don't charge for using them. Just thought I'd share

I grew up in Cecl County in North East. I moved out to Hagerstown after I met my late wife at Frostburg State. I know what you mean about Montgomery County being expensive Frederick isn't much better.

I didn't mined paying the coinstar fee. I figured the 7 bucks it cost was well worth my time not to wrap it. I only go about every 3 years.

Only 15 days until we leave!!!
