Hi all,
So I have close to $150 dollars in change and was curios if any one has used the coinstar to exchange for a CVS giftcard and then purchased disney gift cards with the cvs gift card... I'm assuming of course they sell disney disney gift cards...

thanks otherwise I'll just roll them and take em to the bank but this would be easier

I have gotten gift cards from coinstar before, but...CVS stores won't let you use a CVS gift card to pay for a gift card. Wording from CVS website "NOTE: CVS/pharmacy gift cards cannot be used online at CVS.com, or to purchase any other retailers gift card or prepaid card that CVS/pharmacy may carry."

ETA - I think this is because CVS gives away their GCs as a promotional item with prescriptions and this is their way of making sure you spend that money at their store.

Are you sure that you actually need to wrap them? I believe that most banks use the automatic counters now, so they may not want them wrapped at all.

Our banks refuse to take prewrapped coins. They have to be loose and the teller has to be able to see all the coins. I wish I had $150- in coins about now. :goodvibes

Around here many of the banks have coin counting machines that anyone can use, you don't have to have an account there. You put the coins it, it counts and gives you a receipt and you bring it to the counter for cash.

I know that many of our People's Bank, TD Bank, Citizens Bank locations have them.

I have a battery powered coin sorter sitting on my dresser. Last year I took $850+ in wrapped coins to deposit at Wells Fargo. They had no problem at all accepting the wrapped coins and the money was in my account and available immediately.

This won't help if you don't have kids, but one thing I look for when choosing a bank for my boys' savings accounts is one that counts change for kids for free. Lots of banks offer this service on their minor's savings accounts.

My bank won't accept bulk coins from adults at all!

If you use amazon.com often, I believe coinstar sells a giftcard for them. That way you can use the card for the amazon purchases, and slide that money from checking into savings for Disney.

Just check wth your particular bank to see what they want. I don't know of a single bank in my area that has a coin-counting machine, and the ONLY time my Chase branches will take UNrolled coin is if it doesn't add up to a roll. 49 pennies, OK. 50 pennies, gotta be rolled.

I'm surprised at how many people use Coinstar with the fees they charge!

Most banks will do the same thing for free. I have yet to go into a bank who won't change my coins for free. (I save my change and go every few months to cash it in)

No need to pay a fee OR roll your coins :) Every bank has the same type coin counter that Coinstar does.

yeah my bank doesnt have the change counters but my moms does so maybe Ill have her do that then write me a check... Its money that ive saved for my disney trip so an amazon gift card wont help me though

Not everywhere. In my area, very few banks have the machines. Most who do have the machines, will only count coins for customers. My bank will accept rolled coins, for deposit only...but only 10 rolls of coins per day.

If you get a g/c from coinstar, there is no fee. I always opt either for amazon.com or itunes gift cards.

As was mentioned in the original post. There are no fees if you cash in for a gift certificate. I have never had an issue with this. And it is like getting "free coffee," since I always reload my Starbucks card.

The whole point of the OP was that when you get a GC, there's no fee.

Before Chase took over my old bank, my bank wanted to charge 10% for rolled coin. It costs money to transport on their armored trucks, and they wanted to pass the cost along to customers. Coinstar, during that time, even NOT getting a GC, was a bargain compared to the bank.
