Coinstar - Disney.com help needed

My sister is going to Disney for the first time and decided to redeem her change (about ($105) in the Coinstar machine for a Disney voucher. This was the first time that she used Coinstar and has no experience with Disney.com, so she was not aware of the fact that she cannot use the voucher to obtain Disney gift cards to use on her trip.

I'm hoping that someone may have had a similar experience and can advise her on what to do.

Honestly, her best bet would be to buy stuff on Disney.com and call it her wdw souvineers.

From what I know of this problem, THOSE are the "giftcards" she got from Coinstar.

The question is if you can buy Disney Gift Cards with those online certificates.

I just put a Disney Gift Card into my cart and went through the process, and yep, you can't use a gift card number to buy a gift card. Credit card or Disney Rewards Card only, is what is allowed.


I don't know what your sister can do. What a bummer! I know when I went to use coinstar, I spent about a day looking into all my choices so I didn't get any nasty surprises like this.

I wonder if she could sell it on ebay (being sure to mention in the listing that you cannot buy a gift card with the online gift card), or use one of those gift-card swapping sites?

Or as someone else mentioned, do some pre-purchasing of souvenirs from the site with it, which will very likely save her some money.

Is coinstar the machine you see at the stores? Isn't that the one that CHARGES you a fee??


COMMERCE bank has a FREE machine that counts and gives you a back voucher, walk to teller, VOILA, CASH! The only way I go!

You're not charged a fee if you purchase gift "cards.'' My son cashed in his change for an Itunes card. You actually end up getting a code and plug that into the selected sites for redemption.

This is a gift card for disneyshopping.com. I think she wants the Disney gift card. The plastic, credit card type card that she can use in the theme parks. Unfortunately for the OP, I think the only thing you can do is, as suggested, purchase the souvenirs from disneyshopping.com.

If you make a purchase online can you return it to a Disney Store and receive a gift card that way? Just an idea if it works. I know that you would be out of the shipping charges.

Nope, just walk in, and use it they are SO FRIENDLY!!

Oh, you can Guess what your amount will be as a little game right on the "coin counter" great for kids, plus they always have some freebie stuff in bank too, like pens, paper "clips", lollipops. I think if you guess within a certain area and you're correct a prize is won, no idea what it is though, I'm sure it is something bank related. All I know is, my son saves change now and it really adds up!
