Coffee?!?!

Another Seattle-ite has to chime in, LOL!

I don't have any inkling that Starbucks is superior coffee (I think anyone who's from/been to Europe is in for big disappointment ordering coffee here--one thing is definitely the water, and the other is even modest restaurants invest in better machines). However, being in Seattle where Starbucks is as ubiquitous as, well oxygen, I have grown accustomed to that taste (it's kind of the same as fast food--it's not that it's great by any means, but what makes it work is that it's predictable and the same way everywhere).

With that said, due to budgetary concerns, I have had to drastically cut back my Starbucks intake, and have made a switch to the McDonald's McCafe coffee drinks. I thought it was going to be a lesser product (how could it not at half the price?) but I've been pleasantly surprised at how well I like it. I enjoy the Caramel Frappes there more than Starbucks Frappucino, and the cost and convenience (more McDs than Starbucks, more McDs have drive throughs) can't be beat. Gotta have my caffeine in the morning! :woohoo:

Disneyland's themepark product is second to none. On the other hand Disneyland's food and beverage products are sorely lacking. I'm not sure how you could possibly insinuate that Disneyland coffee was better than Starbucks. I don't think many here would agree with that statement. They were using Nescrap until recently.

It isn't about agreeing. If you rate starbucks gourmet coffee beans they are a 2 of 5. That's below average. Anyone would guess that it is more likely that any other bean would have to be better. That is the most likely possibility.

I would strongly agree that European coffee is second to none! Wonder what they serve at Disney France?
As far as Starbucks..... it is a safe bet if your use to it, personally I will go elsewhere especially if they serve Longbottom or Allan Brothers. Absolutly spoiled by the competition in the Northwest..... rated 2 out of 5 huh? Thanks for the info, didn't know that but belive it.:surfweb:

I'm not saying Starbucks is a 2 of 5. Just using a rating analogy.

There are actual grading standards for many products including coffe beans.
Starbucks uses below average coffee beans.

I have to say that I'm not surprised by Starbucks low coffee bean rating. I've always found their coffee to be over roasted and tasting burnt. Their standards have definitely slipped over the past 3 or 4 years. But I also feel that DL should have a decent cup of coffee. They are a large corp, you'd think that they would produce alot better coffee than what they have. It's pretty bad when the coffee at HOJO's is alot better than what they can produce in the parks. Pretty sad if you ask me.

Ok I need my daily intake of ICED COFFEE - DD - Starbucks are ok I love the little coffee shops, they have the best coffee!!

I am lucky enough to be anticipating a visit to DLR in April, and had a little hope, deep in my heart, that there might be a decent cup of coffee to be had in the parks. This doesn't seem to be the case. Like many of the rest of you, I scratch my head that Disney's attention to detail is completely lacking when it comes to coffee. :confused3 True, their overall food and beverage services are not exactly high quality, but there are a lot of fine coffee franchises out there which would bring a welcome improvement.

I'm just going to throw this out. Is Starbucks good coffee? It is not made from good beans. No kidding. It is made from below average coffee beans and sticks and rocks. No kidding, this is 100% true.

Marketing fools people and it is probably true that Dunkin Donuts and McDonalds are serving better coffee. Because it's not hard to serve better coffee than Starbucks.

I totally agree with you...Starbucks is way overated and their coffee isn't that great. People just drink it because it's trendy...I agree also that Dunkin Donuts has good coffee..I haven't found a good cup o joe at the Disney resort...Sorry, i have high standards for coffee...

Back to the OP question. The coffee they serve in New Orleans Square is a better coffee than in the rest of the Park. You cannot get free refills throughout the day, but it is a drinkable French Roast.

Good luck!

Cathy

Being a die hard coffee drinker, I am continually surprised at the lack of consumable coffee at the DLR. Starbucks is not the best, but it is far from the worst. I honestly think the stuff they serve in the resort is Farmer Brothers or something. Also, the coffee is allowed to sit, whereas if I order an Americano at Starbucks, I at least know they are pulling a fresh shot.

Starbucks is over roasted, but the quality of the bean is at least Arabica. Many lower end brands like Taster's Choice, Folgers, etc. use Robusto beans, which are much lower in quality and taste. So given a choice between mass market coffee brands and Starbucks, I'll pick Starbucks.

However, I think the Peet's coffee in Haagen Dazs is the best in the Resort. ;)

Either I make it myself at the hotel in the AM before we leave for the park or in a pinch the french roast in NOS. the rest is swill but I do agree it likely has to do with the water they use even more than the beans.

Oh dear... this is good to know. Both me and dh need a good strong coffee in the morning. Being from Vancouver where we drink coffee strong enough to stand a spoon up in it, we've always found most southern US coffee to be very weak. Knowing that its also going to be bad tasting... could be cause for some serious casualties :scared1:.

I'll keep in mind Haagan Daaz in DTD. We may have to hit that every morning. Hopefully the hotel coffee is decent... :lmao:... (yeah, who am I kidding?)

I agree on the Tim Hortons! Mmmm... true Canadian coffee . Although, strangely enough, McDonalds is giving them a good run for their money.

Disneyland does need a Tim Horton's! Or a Second Cup (Canadian franchise similiar to Starbucks) they have MUCH better coffee.

However, I do believe Europe has the best coffee!

Signed,
Coffee Snob:thumbsup2
