Coffee stays hot in the carafe? Plus, one thing I wish DCL did.

DH does not like to order morning coffee, because he does not want to be woken up by the delivery. I see that some order coffee the night before. What time? If it’s delivered to us around 11 PM, will it still be hot if we wake at 7:30?

I think I want to try ordering the night before during our December cruise.

Then there’s breakfast. I wish they had a more varied room service breakfast menu. I would love a leisurely hot breakfast or lox and bagel on our balcony.

I think it was RCCL that offered breakfast egg sandwiches on room service menu and I thought it was awful. Princess offers a full breakfast served in your room or balcony for a cost. I want to experience that, it just so happens we are going on Princess for my birthday in January, so that’s what I want for my Birthday!

Cruising in December and January! Lucky you, Bobbi!

I often order hot water for tea on our last night as soon as we get back to the cabin after early dinner. So between 7:30 & 8:30 pm? It is still hot in the morning.

I am in the seventh week of foot reconstruction surgery recovery. I have gotten an OK to travel with minimal walking in December, so yes! We have fit two cruises between surgeries. I expect to have the other foot operated on in late January or February.

Thank you! We will definitely order the night before.

The December cruise is a VGT bargain, booked earlier this week!!:)

Ouch! Two cruises sound like a great way to recuperate. Congrats on the VGT bargain and happy sailing. :boat:

I think the carafes work very well.

Perhaps one person in your cabin could make a quick trip to Cabanas for hot breakfast items and bring them back to the room.

Or, check the room service menu. Some items like the BLT could make a nice breakfast.

I've ordered coffee many times the night before and it's hot the next morning. Usually order it around 10pm.

I would expect the worst thing about coffee from the night before is not that it's not hot, but that it's stale. Anyone able to comment on that?

Take some ziploc bags with you on your cruise. Gather your lox and bagel supplies one morning while you're at Cabanas. Then you can store the refrigerated items in your room and...TA-DAAAA! You can have your bagel on your verandah on one of your mornings without a trip out of the room!

Thank you!

The cruise I am really missing is DCL’s EBPC trip that leaves Friday! We booked that opening day. That’s really why we booked Princess in January to experience the new locks. One consultation for us is that our Ohio neighbors have joined us on the Princess cruise.

DCL’s insurance came through for us an we got our money back as we canceled after paid in full date. Never imagined this foot operation!

Stale coffee...I understand it may be, but all I really want is to sit outside, watch the ocean with a cup of coffee before having to get dressed to leave the room. Tom does not want the wake up call to be informed the cofffee is on the way. Nothing is perfect, we’re on vacation...it will be something new to try. Glad to try!

You can always order coffee from room service when you wake up. The delivery is pretty quick. That way the coffee is fresh and you don't have to worry about getting woken up.

Also you can go up to Cabanas and get a plate of food and bring back to your room and eat on your balcony. I've seen people carrying food back that has the domes over the plates.

Hi Bobbi,

So glad you are able to sail again soon!

We sailed last week. Yes, the coffee remains hot all night and didn't taste stale to me. Is DCL coffee my absolute favorite? No, but it was fine. They will bring cream if you want it and one of those little white ceramic rectangular shaped dishes that holds packets of sweetener.

I can comment on something else.....on past sailings, when we would order the cheese plate, it would come wrapped with plastic wrap and on a dish that would fit inside our fridge. This time, we ordered two, one to eat right away and one to save in the fridge for morning. Well, they both arrived on large dinner plates covered with those domes. That set-up does not fit in the fridge. So, if you want something that comes on a plate and you hope to keep it cold in the fridge, I would ask it to be placed on a smaller plate and covered with plastic wrap. Our situation was no big deal, but now I know specifically what to ask for the next time I hope to place something in our fridge.

Hope you are healed PRONTO!!

P.S. Have you ever sailed with MJ? I met her, her DH and darling GD last week!

But that would mean that one would have to change out of pjs and look somewhat presentable to make the trek to Cabanas. :rotfl2:Then your verandah breakfast isn't as relaxing as just rolling out of bed and making it out to the chairs on the balcony. :lmao:

Thanks for the tip about keeping things cold.

I do not think i’ve sailed with MJ. Someday!

We tried doing this, and it wasn't hot the next morning. Then after inquiry, DH had drunk a cup that night after we first got it. Yup, he's that person who can drink a cup of caffeinated coffee right before going to bed. So while I have faith it'll stay hot if it's full, like everyone else says, make sure no one drinks any of it that night! Definitely doesn't stay hot then. I didn't bother with another attempt b/c I figured DH would do it again, LOL!

Its funny how different we all are. One of my favorite parts of cruising is waking up early, walking the top level of the ship over to the drink area, get myself a coffee and then go watch the sunrise or look for sea life, or just enjoy the wind and the sounds etc. Then I go get more coffee to bring back yo DW who is still sleeping.

We did this on our EBTA and was the perfect breakfast in bed for my girls!!!

My DH is solicitous. I am trying to let him experience coffee without his having to get it and without the dreaded call saying the room service is on the way,I have not been able to walk very well, the person to get the coffee, cannot be me. I always assumed if you did not put the placard out the night before you cannot get coffee delivered in the morning. I am happy to learn that is incorrect!

I am so glad I started this thread! I am so happy we have an upcoming Dream Cruise, thank you!!!

btw, we love to order the room service chocolate chip cookies at night as a midnight snack, but no reason you can't get "breakfast cookies" to go with your coffee. After all, you are on vacation...out at sea! Have a blast!
