coffee on the DCL

How is the coffee on the DCL? Is it the same horrible nescafe stuff they serve at WDW? We are planning our first cruise for next spring and we are sort of picky about our coffee. When we go to WDW we always bring a little hot pot, a melita coffee cone/filters (one cup size), bottled water and our own coffee.
We also bring two (cheap) ceramic coffee cups so we can have a nice mug of coffee to start our day.
Do you think we should bring this on the cruise as well?

Not to worry......we had coffee delivered to the room every morning, you will have a card in your room (look in the drawers for it, it's not always left out on the table) that you can fill out in the evening to request coffee, danish, etc. It will be delivered at the time you specify, and most of the time, they'll call you before they deliver (bonus..wake up call!). You hang the card outside on your door handle before 11:00 (I think) and they'll take care of the rest.
The coffee was fresh, hot, and good. Better than most I've had, except in a specialty shop.
A lot of people will suggest to order a pot at night, and say that it will stay hot in the carafe....but it's not necessary to do that, because you can have your coffee delivered fresh each morning (except the last morning).
I usually bring my own coffee, too.....but DON'T. You'll just be carrying extra weight that you don't need.

My DW did not really like the coffee. Not very good in her opinion, but still drank it none the less. She did find the Cove Cage on Deck 9 and enjoyed the offerings there. Much better and more variety.

do they have any flavored creamers available?

I have to have my coffee with flavored creamer & am wondering if I should bring my own to enjoy every morning. The perfect cup of coffee on the verandah..................The good life!

My family and I did not like the coffee on either Deck 9 or from Room Service. For our past two cruises, I brought our Cuisinart Two for the Road cofeemaker and Green Mountain or Starbucks coffee. I also brought my own cream and sugar. I know my sister looks forward every morning to my knocking on her door with a good cup of coffee. I plan on bringing it in July for our Western cruise.

So far, I'm still leaning heavily on bringing the hot pot and melita cone/filters and coffee. (we're partial to a nice organic coffee from out local wholefoods market). I hate to carry extra stuff but I can't imagine a dream cruise without a good cup of coffee in the morning. I hadn't thought about the creamer issue. Do you suppose I could just go to one of the beverage stations and grab so creamers and bring them back to the room? Or do they have that horrible imitaion non fat dairy creamer instead of the real thing??

They have the little creamer cup things that can be brought with room service. Not sure what is in them. My wife loves the Green Mountain, but we didn't have anything to make it in, so it had to make the journey back home.

2nd star - I believe there were different flavors in the Cove Cafe, but I didn't go so I can't be certain.

I would lean to bring your own maker if you can. If you need your fix then you will want to have it, the onboard stuff will not satisfy.

It is Nescafe - There have been a lot of complaints in this board about it - I think people would even be willing to pay for coffee if they knew it would be good - Nescafe - free - Starbucks, Deidrich's - $$$$$$

If you are able, I would bring your own - I have even thought about bringing the coffee bags and ordering hot water - Hey, it's better than what they are serving!

the coffee on Deck 9 left a lot 2B desired.
It made the "delivered" coffee taste 10x's better.
Our biggest complaint and we told the Dining Room Head Server (MacLean Andrades on the Magic) that there was no powdered creamer. I know some of you will cringe but I love the stuff and hate most liquid creamers.

If you're picky 'bout your coffee (sounds like you are) and I am 2 , take your "stuff", you'll only be happiest with yours anyway.

We like our Dunkin' Donuts coffee (and Starbucks) and we liked the specialty coffee in the Cove Cafe. I like Caramel lattes and my DH liked the iced coffee. It is $$$$ (like Starbucks) but we were on vacation so it was okay. At 6am (when we watched the ship dock or the sunrises we had the Deck 9 coffee which wasn't too good, but tided us over. We never tried room service, I will try that next time, sounds better. When we drive places we bring our own coffee maker or make sure we can get to a Dunkin' Donuts...

So the question begs to be asked...what is the cost for the speciality coffees? In line with what one would pay at Starbucks or equivalent?

IMHO, the bright side of having to return home after a DCL cruise or trip to WDW is that you're no longer subject to the very mediocre coffee!

I agree coffee is not one of Disney's "excellent" items. We tried latte at the Cove and it was not much better. It was lukewarm at best. Cove bartender seemed afraid of the froth machine and not comfortable with the expresso machine either. Was glad to be home back to my Gevalia and Starbucks.

Just for the record, and as others has posted, the coffee on the cruise is NOT Nescafe, is not instant and I, as someone who tends to be a coffee snob, found to be very good. Personally I would never get coffee from the coffee station because no coffee can sit for an extended period of time without losing its quality. But what we had in the restaurants and room service was very good.

I just don't want someone to skim this thread and read your post and misunderstand. The coffee on DCL is freshly-brewed Columbian -- not at all like the instant served at most of WDW.

I seem to remember DW saying it was about $3.50- 4.00 per cup. She may have gotten a thermal mug to refill, but I don't recall exactly. Sorry.

I only drank the coffee in the dining room, and it was great.
No powdered cream, no little packets of creamer, they served it with real half and half.
And there is a huge half and half dispenser at the beverage station too for coffee, or for kids like mine who thought both dispensers were milk. Best glass of milk he ever had he said.!!!

So funny you brought this up. I was at a dinner party with a friend last night who works for Nestle. She said they get such a bad rap because of the Nescafe brand (everyone thinks instant). They had other brands and I believe what she said was they just merged them into the Nescafe brand. She did say that just because it says Nescafe doesn't mean it's instant. They do have a whole bean Nescafe brand. I didn't think it tasted instant and thought it was just fine (and I'm originally from Starbucks country).

Im very "picky" about my daily cuppas! The coffee on board isnt too bad, but rather bitter for my liking. I cant stand Starbucks coffee - I must be the only person on the planet who thinks its over-rated and expensive. Maybe we pay more for it over here? I love Cappuccinnos, and apparantly you can ask ANYTIME for a cappu in the restaurants on board. I didnt know that - but will definitely ask next time. Alternatively, I shall take sachets of Nescafe Cappuccinos with me and just have hot water delivered.Nat
