Coffee maker swap at POP

It's a letter that Disney sent to me when I asked about having a coffee maker in the room. The problem is not from Disney, but the state Fire Marshall. If for some reason, the fire department was called to the hotel and they became aware of a coffee pot any of the rooms, the Fire Marshall has the right to shut the hotel down until it's brought back to code. So you not only put your reservation in jeopardy, but that of everyone else staying at the resort.

Will it be ok if I call you to bail me out of jail after the Great Coffee Maker Raid? :earsgirl:

Sure! I'll bring my wad of Disney dollars with me! :lmao:

I'm not sure I understand why the Fire Marshall would shut down the rooms for coffee makers considering that the resorts (from moderates and up) have coffee makers. Is it because they're not Disney-purchased coffee makers? Or is it because they're not in all rooms?

None of the values provide fridges to all the rooms either (without a $10/day fee) so wouldn't that also be a violation? How do other 'appliances' fit into that logic?

I believe I saw a post by you in another thread where you'd stated that your husband is a fire marshall, so I would guess that you'd have a good bit of knowledge about these things. Now, I do know that fire marshalls can shut down any place with violations but I've typically only seen them ticket for things unless they were a clear danger to others (i.e. wires hanging from the ceiling, open flames without some mechanism for protecting the general public, nonexistent fire extinguishers in a business with open flames, etc.). Considering the sheer number of 'appliances' that individuals bring to the resorts, I'd guess they'd have a really hard time delineating between the dangers of a coffeemaker versus a curling iron. Please help me understand what the difference is between these two.

Because it's not part of the fire code. We had an insident at work. Someone throw a cigarette into the bushes and the fire department had to put out a small bush fire. When the fire marshall came into the building, he saw something that was not code, and I forget what it was, it was so minor it was unbelievable. He shut the business down until the building down until it was totally fire inspected and back to code. It was really an ugly incident!!

Did you ever wonder why you can't take a stroller into Epcots Land? Becuase of the county fire code. It has nothing to do with Disney. Why you can't sleep 5 in certain hotel rooms? It's against the fire code.

I never would have thought a thing about bringing a coffee pot until we had firemen and a marshall in the family. It never seemed like such a big deal. I'm just letting you know that there can be reprecussions to having one.

Sorry, I didn't answer your question. Appliances can cause fires. If it's Disney provided, they become the responsible person. They also have to have things inspected, like a extinguisher would be. When you bring your own appliance, they can't "guarantee" that it's in proper working condition. I'm not sure, but I think room size (square footage) also has something to do with it.

But the Fire Marshall would have todeal with Mickey if he tried shutting down the hotel. I can definately see things like electric frypans being a no no but the coffe pots and fridges I think would be ok !!

I don't think Pop would hold the fridges/coffee makers or help out with the swaps if it was not 'approved' by all the appropriate people. They are a business and will follow the rules.

I had it last week and really appreciated it. I never realized how b-a-d POP coffee was until I drank some by mistake!

Left it at luggage services yesterday morning for Maraena.

Thanks to everyone who has kept this thing going for so long.

Hi,

I'm next in line for the coffee pot swap and I just got word from the person after me (Disneybren) that they will not be using the coffee pot because they have upgraded to Port Orleans. She said she posted to the thread several months ago to be removed but her name was not removed.:confused3

The problem is that they were the only swapper for the whole month of January. I doubt that Pop will keep the coffee pot in storage for a month and a half.

We leave on Tuesday for our drive down so at this point I've sent a PM to englishrose about the situation and asking for her info.

I hope this isn't the end of the swap.

I gave ranthony my info and will check when I get to Pop in Feb, if anyone else can be found to use it between ranthony and me PM me and I will give you my info which is what ranthony will be leaving on the box so they could get it . I think we need to lookfor Late Dec. and early Jan Poppers for now. Can we all start posting on other threads to acheive this!

I received a pm from mrs mom for Jan 27th thru 3rd As this is open I hopefully pm'd ranthony so she can get her info before she leaves and then I will give mrs mom mine. Can the op please confirm this is okay!! ranthony please pm me that you got the info Thanx

Hopefully mrsmom will get the pot after ranthony and pass it on to me.I will pm mrs mom with my details in a week or two! I hope Pop keeps it for about 4 weeks I will tell mrs mom to have them check lost & found as I have heard swaps do end up there!!WDW can you update list please!!

I apologise for any confuson. I wrote to the group leader about a month ago and maybe she did not get it. We will not be needing the coffee pot from January 10th-20th. We will not be staying at Pop now. It is a great resort and we love it there but we will be staying at another resort.

I have the info. from Mrsmom and am planning on attempting to store the coffee pot when I check out on the 29th of Dec. However, I'm worried that they will flat out refuse to keep it that long.

If I don't actually have to tell them dates, then it may stick around for a month...we'll see.

I'll try to log on tomorrow if I get time before we leave (around 3pm) to see if there is any new information.

Computor has been down for 2 days hopefully will be fixed soon. Using public library for today so could let my Dissers know I wasn't AWOL

I will be at POP Jan 24-28th and could take the pot during that time-if you already have someone who needs it on the 27th I could pass it off early.
Hope this helps keep the swap alive!

Hey folks! The coffee pot was fantastic to have. I left a brand new (unopened) package of cone filters since I just worked through the opened ones. I wouldn't worry about filters for a bit for it unless someone plans on drinking upwards of 10 pots a day. The box could use a small bottle of dish soap, however.

I was just reading through the thread and, sadly, I don't have an instant way to contact RAnthony. We used email so I don't have a cell number.

Thanks for letting me use the coffee pot! I haven't heard from RAnthony (I did give her my cell number in case there was a problem) so I assume she got the coffeemaker. I did end up having to check it at luggage services but was sure to grab a claim card.

My DH is of the opinion that we don't need a coffee pot. However, HE has gotten me addicted to the stuff in the past 2 yrs and I'd like to wake up w/ some Joe in my hand.

I'd love to help you all out. Sorry I didn't see this sooner. Please let the guy vacationing there now know that I can help out. We arrive Jan 9 and leave the morning of the 14.:coffee:
