Dear friends,
This my first post. Our house was ground Zero for Katrina and we are the one oif the few lucky ones to still have a house. But, we have a trip planned for XMS to WDW and will have to cancel in the next month if we cannot get a better rate.

We can harderly get any mail and the news paper is not running any Dinsey Ads. So, if you see a Code for the month of Decmecber, please let me know.

We've been able to find one YQC, but it only saved us $5 off the room, where last year out room at the Wilderness Lodge as only $119.00.
Thanks for all your help and prayers,

The Vinces

What dates do you plan on going to WDW and are you flexible?

Sorry to hear of your misfortune...so sad. Based on my own exerience, you're not going to find a WL room @ the price you're hoping for...

Do you have AAA?

Have you explored the DVC rental boards?

Good Luck.

I don't mean to be insensitive, but considering the devastation Katrina wrought, being able to go on vacation at all is a major luxury. I think the OP needs to consider the lesser expensive resorts or reschedule.

It would be next to impossible to verify that any family is indeed a victim of this horrible storm, so I can't see a special code coming out. OP, I'm not suggesting that you were not effected by the storm. I wish you a speedy recovery.

You can contact FEMA or Red Cross or another relief agency. I know there are lodging programs in place for those displaced by Katrina, but I'm not sure how restrictive they are or what qualifications they have in place. Otherwise, as mentioned, you may want to consider another resort that fits your budget because as far as I know the code you mentioned is the only offer for that time frame and they don't usually release anymore that go even lower.

OK here is what i have found. First of all going to Disney is NEVER cheap.

All of this is based on 7 nights with 2 adults and 2 kids 9 and 7

Dec. 15-22, 2005

Without any code + dining
WL courtyard view 4 day base = 3450.82

With YQE code
AKL pool view 4 day base =2919.32

POR standard view 4 day base =2191.46

ASMusic standard rm 4 day base 1835.42

If it were me, I would go with the value if it meant not going at all.

Just my opinion

We live in Mandeville, so we were affected by the storm as well. Luckily, our house was fine, but I know how stressful things have been (and still are), and a vacation is really what a lot of people need.
As much as I would love to see Disney release some specials for hurricane victims, I don't really see it happening. Didn't Disney only give like 1 or 2 million dollars toward relief, when individuals like Celine Dion are giving the same amount? Anyway...if you really want to go and you can't afford what you have booked now, I would consider changing your dates and/or looking into a moderate or value. At this point, I wouldn't count on any discounts.

By the way, where do you live?

Take care :wizard:

ONLY 1 or 2 million? Like that isn't a lot. By the way Celine Dion owns all of her money, Disney has many thousands of shareholders that own their money.

While I agree that a vacation would help the frayed nerves and sad hearts of Katrina victims, I think there are a lot more basic needs to provide for victims besides an Disney vacation that is expensive in a perfect circumstance forget in a time of limited cash and huge needs.

I hope that through insurance, donations, community outreach and time all the families touch by this weather tragedy get their lives back to normal. We need to keep in mind that less than 25% of all US residents will ever get to go to Disney, due to the high cost. It isn't Disney's responsibility to change that. Disney is a public corporation in business to provide profits to it's shareholders. Disney is and has always been a generous donor to many causes, most of which they don't even advertise. To suggest that their 1 or 2 million is sparse is unfair. That 1 or 2 million is on top of several more million that is part of their corporate donation budget every year, not just when hurricanes hit

I, too, was affected by Katrina here in Biloxi, MS. I understand that Disney did donate approximately $2 million to the relief effort. Wal-Mart (and it had shareholders) donated $15 million cash and $5 in supplies. Oprah donated $10 million of her own money. I was disappointed with Disney. However, they did help my best friend when she called to get out of town with her 4 kids after the storm. (Her house and one other are the only 2 left standing on her street with one neighbor killed.) Disney gave her the FL resident discount on her room. Now, if they had given that discount on her tickets too, that would have been great.

To the poster who questioned how would Disney know whose homes had damage: On the Mississippi Gulf Coast there are less than 10% of the homes with no damage. The media covers New Orleans, but let me assure you the destruction here is overwhelming. All Disney would have to do is use a zip code or city name.

To the original poster: If you can afford to go, I say go! It is so hard to be here day in and day out! Give the kids some new scenery!

To all of you who have opened your hearts and/or wallets, we truly appreciate you and could not have done it without you!

Hey, enjoy those upcoming trips:goodvibes

Hard to tell what people's intents are...but there's an individual who posts regularly on the DVC rent/trade thread soliciting points for far under market value. She pleads that a "worthy" person in her family/inner circle desperately needs one last trip to WDW. It's reported that she pulls this several times a year. Another person uses a similiar scenario and resells the res. on eBay.

Con artists, enterprising entrepreneurs or just your garden-variety scumbags?:rolleyes1

I also live in Biloxi, and even though we have thousands of dollars of damage and my place of employment is gone, we're the lucky ones. I hide out in my home and only go where I have to, it brings me to tears to see what has happened. I've had a house full of family because many of them have no home to repair or it is so bad that they can't live there until their repairs are done. That being said my husband and I will be going to Disney in November, can we afford it? Probably not, but the short escape from our new reality here is worth maxing out a credit card. I've lived here most of my life and been through several storms, including Camille, and nothing compares.

For all those who have donated time, money, supplies, or just remembered us in your prayers, we thank you with all our hearts. To know that our country does care about us makes it a little easier to go on with each day.

Can't wait to escape to the Wonderful World of Disney.

I hope you have a great time. I hope that a new package or codes come out that you can take advantage of and save some money.

Don't fear, people aren't done helping to restore your area. Our church is regrouping and planning a full weekend trip in November to work (for free) and we're bringing our own materials, tools etc. as well as stuff to leave there for continued repair. Our church is not alone.

Enjoy your trip, I agree that getting away from what you're dealing with is worth maxing out ccards. I don't however agree to special codes because just like the lowlifes using Red Cross debit cards for Louis Vuitton bags, people will lie and abuse it.

Thnks to everyone who replied. I assure you I am not a scam. just someone trying to give his kids tha same Xmas present they have had for the last 6 years.

We live in Pearl River, LA at Cedar and HWY 1090(Military Road) So, for you locals, you can see where we live.

I wish you all the best and if anyone gets a code or a rental please let me know.

Wow! My kids didn't even get to Disney till they were at least in their teens. Your kids are lucky at Christmas! Maybe POP this year? ASM? I just got back from POP because I couldn't afford deluxe this trip and it was really nice and the kids love it!! :cool1:

That wouldn't work. I just looked at their other post on the rental boards and they are looking for a two bedroom villa! :rolleyes1

Hey - HLAUBURN - we live in Bush (right outside of Covington - most people know Bush from the House of Seafood!!) I work in Mandeville, right by Hwy 59 & I-12.

Glad to know your house did OK for the storm. Ours did too (except for roof damage, lost a lot of trees, etc). Thankfully, we did not have any water damage!

We had a trip planned for Oct 7, but had to cancel (we're waiting to see how much the roof and other stuff will cost). But we've rescheduled for next summer and so the countdown begins!

Have a great trip everybody!!!!
