Codes during mid Aug? Value vs. Regular Season

We are planning to go to WDW during mid/late August (right before school starts). But this is regular season at the Value and Moderate Resorts BUT value season for the Deluxes. How would codes or AP rates work during this time? We have stayed in moderates for the last 2 years with an AP rate of $79 at Thanksgiving. But I think this time when we go in August we will be paying more for a value resort since its regular season, right? Even with an AP rate.

I thought that they issued codes, etc. pretty much by seasons. So how do they work it when the seasons aren't the same?

I figure I could probably stay at Animal Kingdom Lodge (value season) with a code or AP rate (if available) for about the same as the discounted regular season rate for the moderates.

If no discounts or codes come out, then I will probably stay at the Dolphin with the Teacher Rate.

What is your experience with this?

Maggie

Here are the AP rates from last August which I saved from mousesavers, there were no codes:

>>>Annual Passholder rates for 7/4/03-8/23/03: ask for Code ### and get up to 40% off rack rates! I'm so happy to eat my words (I had predicted there might be no Annual Passholder rates for this period)! Discounted rates apply to all Disney resort hotels, subject to availability for your dates. Some sample rates:
· Ft. Wilderness - $25 value season, partial hookup campsite; $30 value season, full hookup campsite; $40 regular season, full hookup campsite; $48 regular season, preferred campsite
· All Stars - $69 standard
· Moderates - $84 standard (very limited availability due to Port Orleans closings)
· Animal Kingdom Lodge - $114 standard, $190 savannah, $340 concierge
· Wilderness Lodge - $114 standard (very limited availability), $134 woods view, $165 courtyard view
· Ft. Wilderness Cabins - $144
· Contemporary - $154 standard garden wing, $189 garden view
· Polynesian - $214 garden view
· Boardwalk/Beach Club/Yacht Club - $204 standard view, $260 water view
· Grand Floridian - $254 garden view
· Old Key West - $159 studio
· Other resorts, room types and views are available at varying prices!<<<<

Be aware that there were no room only discounts last year from 8/24/03 to 10/2/03. They had the special package deal then (7 nights for the price of 4). Didn't do me any good since we already had AP's. :(

I just booked CBR from 10/09 thru 10-16 with a AAA discount which brought the cost down from $1139 to $955 including taxes
which I was happy with but now that Im reading about the codes and the great rates that are round IM getting greedy!!!

I read here that codes for OCt are usually out around Aug I was wondering how big of a discount they are for this time of year!!

thanks

now if I can figure out how to get the countdown to work:confused:

Discounts if offered are usually a percentage off the rack rate for that resort during that time period. So it will not matter the season is different for moderate and deluxe.

As noted by the rates from last year, there is really no way to know what the discount will be, or if they will even be offered. It is just wait and see.

Thank you for your replies. I know that discounts are just wait and see. I am just trying to figure out a budget. I will probably book a room at Pop Century or CBR and then if discounts do come out, switch to AKL.

It looks like from what Debbie posted that All Stars and the Moderates had one flat discount rate even though there were 2 different seasons during that time frame? It looks like Ft. Wilderness was the only one that separated the seasons???

I will also go to Disney during early to mid August. I hope to find a good code for deluxes at that time, too.

Yup, I'm playing the waiting game too. We're booked at the BC August 14th for 8 nights. This time frame is considered the value season. Right now I have a AAA rate. I budgeted for this rate but it would be nice to get a better discount if possible.
