Code Question

I haven't been to WDW since July 2001. I took a Disney vacation break and spent my summers visiting places out west. I've been out of the WDW loop but I clearly remember using codes for my past visits.

Have dicount codes for the general public been coming out more or less frequently? In the last couple of years?
I mean, is it pretty much expected that there is usually some sort of discount offered at pretty much any time of the year even if it is a limited time offer and sells out quickly?

I have been reading threads and it seems people are pretty sure that a code will come out for their trip dates and it's just a matter of jumping on it quickly to make sure it doesn't sell out.
I am going the second week in October and I booked with AAA (still paying a high price, I think, for the Polynesian). I keep looking for a code but am resigned to the fact that this is the price I am going to have to plan on paying.

It's rare to see a general code now days. I can't remember when I've seen one around. Gone also seems to be the pin codes that folks use to get by email and mail. AP and Florida codes still seem to come up with alot of limited availability and lots of black out times There were hardly any AP codes for this summer except DVC locations and some AP discounts in August. The AP codes are not showing up until the last minute and resort occupancy has been high, which means disney has no incentive to discount rooms that are selling for full price. Most folks are holding their breath whether AP codes will come out in October, as October was skipped last year. IF you have an AP, AAA, or are a Florida resident, you might be able to snag the hard to find room discount code. If you wait for a general public code, you might be out of luck....sorry to say. General public codes only come out as a last resort for Disney and Oct is getting to be a very busy and popular time to go with MNSSHP and F&W.
