If you order it online, can you please let me know where you get it? I've been
looking at vitacost.com because I order from them often, but am just so confused as to what to get/which brand/oil or solid? I'm a little confused and need a little guidance. Thanks!

I am thinking of trying coconut oil, too. Does is come in a solid, creamy form? How do you use it in cooking?

What a great product! One you can use in your hair, on your skin, and eat it, too!

I use Nature's Way. What I do is scoop out some for my skin and put it in a little mason jar, and cook with the rest... refill as needed. :thumbsup2

It comes 'solid' (when at room temp), but melts as soon as you put some in your hand (kinda cool!!!). In cooking, I almost think of it as butter. I take a butter knife and scoop some out and plop it in my pan. It melts really quickly.

It comes in a solid form but melts at room temperature. I usually order a large jar of it and separate it into 2 portions -- one for cooking, and the other for hands, hair, etc. For cooking I scoop out an amount slightly less than I would use if I were using olive oil.

Unrefined means that it still smells like coconut and imparts a slight coconut taste when cooking. My kids LOVE it. They say they feel like they're on vacation when I cook with it.

For skincare - do you use it for your face? Just like you would a regular moisturizer? It seems like it would feel heavy or greasy....no?

For your hair - are you using it as a masque or a conditioner or both?

I am thinking of ordering this as well. What I have heard is that I should get the unrefined extra virgin coconut oil. Is this right?

Thanks for your answers....I am glad to see this thread! :)

1. Yes I use it on my face, it only takes a little bit and it melts in my hands and then I apply it. It does seem greasy at first, but then it gets absorbed really fast. It does not seem heavy to me.:confused3

2.I use it as both, I put some on before I wash it, and then when I am finished I add some more to the scalp and hair, makes my hair so soft and smell really great! I don't use shampoo, so this really works for me

3. I use the organic version of coconut oil. I even have one that is ozonated. It is very nice and leaves my skin feeling great. Word of caution, is that you will need some time ie 6 to 15 minutes ( depends on how fast your skin absorbs moisture) to let it soak in or you will risk it getting on your clothes or bed sheets! I use it as lip gloss too!!;)

my husband says, I soft and smell good enough to eat:guilty::rotfl:!!!

SO DO I!!!! I love this stuff. I've also put it on cuts.

Hi, OP here, just placed an order thru vitacost.com (mrrebates:thumbsup2) for the Nutiva 15oz (ordered 3 - 1 for the kitchen, 1 for my bathroom, 1 for my DD's bathroom). Thanks everyone!

How well does this work as a moisturizer? My husband has such dry skin that it cracks and his hands look ashy and purple. Nothing helps. And what do you recommend I would buy if I am going to use it for skin care and cooking?

We use cromers dot com . We buy the solid sticks (like butter or margarine) and use them for the popcorn popper..MMMMM...

hi:wave: oops! forgot to mention that we get ours from the health food store. It was $5.99 and jar!
I have really dry skin so by the time I am finished I look:smooth:! This may be TMI but you can even make lubricant from it and it works great too!! and it is all natural no fillers or yucky stuff (going inside your body) to deal with, last a longgggggggggggggg time too!!:rotfl2:, We buy the spectrum brand or the tree of life brand for the regular organic type and then for the ozonated one we order off line from a place called Gnosis wellness centre and it is great! It makes you look so young!! I have people tell me I look like I'm in high school:blush:and I'm in my thirties!!!:cheer2: I think he will like it. I use it on my hubby and he's got rough skin too, he feels like a newborn baby when I'm finished with him!

As I was just reading through this thread about the myriad uses and wonders of coconut oil (new to me), it struck me that this was sounding just like the miracle windex cure mentioned throughout the movie "My Big Fat Greek Wedding"!

I'm new to this, too.

Does anyone who has extremely fine/thin hair use this on theirs and how does it work out?

Is it safe to use around the eyes or should I continue to use an eye cream?

Cooking with it - I'd rather not have the taste of coconut on everything I eat (well, everything that I use oil to cook); is unrefined as important for using it internally or would it be okay to use regular (organic) to cook with?

Edit for one more question: It's really humid where I live - will that make the oil get all nasty and turn my skin into an oil slick about 2pm every summer day? lol

TIA!

For me, using coconut oil, is my windex miracle cure as I use it for everything!I don't have any problems with oilyness when using the oil on my face before applying makeup. Although in the summer I normally only use the oil at night after I was my face as I am just not as dry as in the winter.

I use the unrefined for skincare and in the kitchen, so I'm not buying two separate jars. I'm sure you could use the refined in the kitchen if the smell/taste bothers you.

I have thin hair and I can only use the oil as a treatment and then rinse it or wash it out. If I put it on my hair dry then it is just too greasy looking, although if I wear it curly I can put a tiny bit on the ends.
