Greetings all!

We have an ADR for Boma and are wondering where we can enjoy a drink or two, possibly while watching the animals, before dinner? Thanks so much for your help!

One of the things we love to do when we go to WDW is have dinner at Boma. We find out what time the African Storyteller will be talking by the firepit by Arusha Rock. We grab a glass of wine from the Bar right above Boma and go out and listen to the story. After that we walk around and check out all the animals. Then in to Boma for dinner. It is great fun!!

you can get a drink from the pool bar or from the gift shop or from mara-they sell small bottles of wine or beer

Just to let you know..none of the bars/restaurants overlook the savannah.

The bar/lounge area is called Victoria Falls - it's sunken off from the main level of the lobby, but above Boma. I don't know how far you can wander with the drinks though - you wouldn't have very far to go to see any of the "wildlife." Great atmosphere nonetheless.

If you like cream type drinks, try Amarula, it is delicious!! Here is a little bit about it that I got off of www.amarula.com.
Amarula
The mystical marula or elephant tree (Sclerocarya Birrea) is indigenous to sub-equatorial Africa. It bears a smallish oval fruit with its flesh packed around a large, very hard kernel. From mid-January to mid-March the marula fruit ripens, giving the fruit its distinctive flavor and rich yellow colour. As the marulas ripen the local inhabitants harvest them from the veld and deliver them to the marula plant or to central pick-up points. The fruit goes through a thorough washing process before reaching the de-stoning tank. In the de-stoning tank, rotating blades remove the flesh from the hard kernels. The fruit pulp and the kernels are then separated. The marula pulp is pumped into stainless steel cooling tanks, where it is kept at a consistent temperature of below 8°C to prevent fermentation. At the cellar, the pulp is transferred to fermentation tanks, where a pure yeast culture is inoculated into the pulp to start the fermentation process. The conditions are similar to those of winemaking. During fermentation, which is performed at 18°C - 20°C, the natural fruit sugar present in the marula is converted to alcohol, taking seven to ten days. During this stage the solid fruit particles settle at the bottom of the tanks. Once fully fermented, the clear marula wine is transferred to the distillery. The fruit solids are compressed to extract all the juice and then distilled to release the marula fruit flavors, which are added to the marula wine. The marula wine is distilled to produce the characteristically flavorful marula spirit, which is then oak-matured for two years in small oak barrels.

Wow, thanks for all the great info. I had no idea about the storyteller or the ice cream drinks or the names of the bars or that they don't actually overlook the critters. You are all amazing. :thumbsup2

If you get your drinks from Victoria Falls Lounge, then you can cross the lobby to the Sunset Overlook. It's a secluded room, beautifully decorated, and full of photos and artifacts. The best part is that it overlooks the Sunset Savannah to the west. You can even step outside onto the balcony. As badger5 suggested, it's really nice to sit by the firepit outside the rear of the lobby. There are big rocking chairs for relaxing. Since the pool area is surrounded by the Uzima Savannah, you can easily stroll around from the Uzima bar as well.
I hope you enjoy... and have one for me.

What is all this about drinks, storytellers, and fireplaces at AKL? We are eating at Boma for the first time...and would love the whole experience. Can you please fill me in Boma-fans? Is this available to guests of AKL only?

Theres a man from africa that tells stories by the fire pit outside, they have big comfy rocking chairs to sit in and little ones for the kiddies. It starts at 6:30 p.m. you can get drinks from the 2 bars (poolside and above Bomas). You can take your drinks anywhere we stayed there for 3 nights and just got back lastnight. The lodge is so beautiful at night, it's softly lit and cozy. I miss it already :goodvibes

We missed the storytelling last time we were there..will it start at 6:30 in May as well? Anyone know?

All of these amenities are available to anyone visiting AKL, not just hotel guests. I hope you'll love Boma as much as we do... can't wait until September.

Wondering if dinner at Boma would be a good TS choice for the day we're planning to spend at MK. My thought was we'd go to MK early in the day, go back to ASMo for a mid-afternoon break, have dinner somewhere, then back to MK for the nighttime parade & fireworks (we won't have hoppers and won't make it to AK this trip). If we could see some of the animal from AKL and even hear some stories that could be great for DD4! Can anyone guess at travel time from ASMo to AKL and from AKL to MK? Would we have time after dinner to make it to MK for parade/fireworks? If stories are at 6:30pm (is this published anywhere?) what time would you reserve dinner for at Boma?

Thanks a bunch! :wave2:

There are no resort to resort buses. If you want to go from ASMo to AKL then you would need to take a park bus and then transfer. I'd go from ASMo to AK and take the AKL bus from there. You could take a cab from one resort to another though. Once you're at AKL you would then be able to take the park bus directly to MK.
