I am going to a cocktail party this Friday evening and have been asked to bring an appetizer...any suggestions?

I so often bring a shrimp, cream cheese, seafood sauce, cheddar, tomatos, green onion layered spread..I am trying to think of something different.

Any help appreciated!

This one reminds me of meatballs we've served in my family for years. (Never got my hands on the recipe though.) I got this recipe from www.recipezaar.com. Hope it helps!

Grandma's Barbecued Cocktail Meatballs

2 lbs ground beef
1 medium onion, minced
1 1/2 teaspoons garlic powder
1 teaspoon onion powder
1/4 cup parmesan cheese
salt and pepper
1/4 cup breadcrumbs (I like Italian flavor)
1/4 cup milk
1 egg
1 teaspoon oregano
1 pinch thyme
2 tablespoons A-1 Steak Sauce (optional)
3 cups barbecue sauce (I use Famous Daves, or Ken Davis)

35 minutes 15 mins prep

1. Preheat oven to 375º.
2. Combine all ingredients except bbq sauce in a bowl, and form into smaller sized meatballs.
3. Place meatballs on a cookie sheet and bake 15-20 minutes, or until cooked through.
4. (time will depend on size of meatballs).
5. When cooked through, remove meatballs from cookie sheet and drain off excess grease.
6. Put meatballs and barbecue sauce in a crock pot, and stir to combine.
7. Keep on the"keep warm" setting.

Here's another one that sounds really good from recipezaar.

Corned Beef & Swiss Cocktail Toasts

1 (8 ounces) package cream cheese, softened
2 teaspoons brown mustard
1/4 lb corned beef, chopped
1/2 cup shredded swiss cheese (2 ounces)
2 tablespoons chopped green onions
paprika
1 (1 package) package rye cocktail bread, toasted

36 toasts 23 minutes 20 mins prep

1. Preheat broiler.
2. Mix cream cheese and mustard with electric mixer on medium speed until smooth.
3. Stir in meat, Swiss cheese and onion.
4. Spread on toast slices and sprinkle with paprika.
5. Place on cookie sheet and broil 2 to 3 minutes or until lightly browned.
6. Or to make ahead: Place on cookie sheet and freeze 1 hour or until firm.
7. Place in freezer-safe container.
8. Freeze up to 1 month.
9. When ready to serve, thaw 10 minutes and broil as directed.

Bacon Wrapped Water Chestnuts

1 can waterchestnuts
1 pound bacon
1 cup ketchup
2/3 cup brown sugar

Wrap water chestnuts in bacon, secure with a toothpick. Place in pan (I recommend a nice disposable foil pan) and bake at 350 for 30 minutes. Mix ketchup and brown sugar. Remove pan from oven and drain off fat. Dip each water chestnut in sauce (I usually just pour the sauce over). Return to pan. Bake for 20-30 minutes - serve hot.

Reheats well.

Also works reasonably well with turkey bacon.

Take a large cooked pasta shell, fill it with chopped shrimp/sealeg combo, sprinkle w/lemon juice and top with finely chopped scallion. Serve w/cocktail sauce and you have yourself a winner.

I make a spinach artichoke dip for most of the parties I go to or have....

2 pkgs. frozen chopped spinach
-Cook according to pkg., but do not salt
-Drain well (wring out)
2 medium onions choped very fine
6 beaten eggs
1/2 cp. parmesan cheese
1 small pkg. Pepperidge Fram Herb Dressing

Mix all together and refridgerate until cold.
Make into small balls.
Bake at 325 for 25-30 minutes.

Enjoy :)

I vote for easy to prepare, no need for an oven and everyone loves it..Spinach dip served with assorted slices of bagel. The recipe is on the back of the Knorr Vegetable Soup mix package. YUMMMMM!

Here is a really easy one that is addictive ;)
Take wonton wrappers and thin sliced hard salami.
take a wonton wrapper and a piece of salami put together with wonton on outside and roll up. Fasten with a tooth pick and bake for 10 mins in a 350 oven serve with sweet and sour sauce, honey mustard.

Im going to a party Friday too, and Ive offered to bring sweet & sour cocktail meatballs.

Buy the tiny meatballs in the frozen section, and 2 jars each of grape jelly & chili sauce

Mix the jelly & chili sauce in a pan over a low heat, until its all blended and smooth

Pour the sauce and meatballs in a crockpot

Let simmer for a few hours at least, stirring occasionaly

It sounds nasty, but they are really very good. ;)

Bourbon Dogs!

1 pkg hot dogs
1 cup brown sugar
1 cup ketchup
1/4 cup bourbon

Cut dogs into 1" pieces. Throw all ingredients into a crockpot on low & cook for a few hours.

Very easy, very good!

I make what Katie makes (sweet and sour meatballs) But I use cranberry sauce instead of grape jelly.

Those are always my favorite to bring, and I throw em in the crockpot for a few hours, and let them cook.

Another crockpot favorite is to take 2 packages of Kielbasa, slice it into thin slices. Melt 2 jars of apple jelly. Throw it all in the crock pot and let it simmer. Yummy stuff. You could also add peppers and onions to it for more flavor.
