Does anyone on here have a child with a cochlear implant? And would you by any chance be in WDW November 21-27? My three year old daughter just got her bilateral implant on Oct. 27th. She loves to see other kids who have "ears" like hers. I was just wondering if anyone would be in WDW at the same time. Keira has two pink nucleus freedom processors...you can't miss her!

You might want to try over on the Disabilities board. That would be a better fit for this kind of question. Hope you find someone there. We will be there November 26 and 27 and would love to say hi to her. No implants, though.

I did not post this on the disabilities thread because I do not consider my daughter disabled! She hears and speaks just as well as any other three year old. She would not qualify for early intervention since she is doing SO well. I guess I forgot how other people may view her.:sad1:

I do not think anyone was insinuating your daughter was disabled but unfortunately not all children with a cochlear implant are as fortunate as your little girl and their families might be checking the disabilities board more often... Just suggesting the family and/or disabilities board might be a better place for you to find a response to your inquiry more so than the "resort" board. Good luck:goodvibes have a magical trip:love:

Actually most deaf people do not consider deafness a disability whether they have a cochlear implant, hearing aids or just use ASL. We do realize that they rest of the world has a different opinion and the DISabilities board is the place to find information about accommodations Disney will provide for the deaf and hard of hearing.
I just spent the weekend a a deaf conference and enjoyed visiting with a wonderful deaf young man whose father is a Disney castmember. He speaks well and is doing well academically with homeschooling. He uses both voice and ASL to communicate depending on who he is communicating with. An example is when he talked to my FIL who is late deafened and does not sign. He spoke to him and did not sign making sure my FIL could see him. of course he is older than your daughter and the CI was his decision not his parents. They have used sign language since finding out he is deaf (crucial for language development if they do not have a CI and wonderful alternative communication if they do).
Btw CI are no longer viewed as evil and bad by the deaf community. They are more and more accepted. Our workshop was on Understanding Deaf Culture and CI was a topic that was discussed and we got views from interpreters that are parents of deaf children some with CI and some without.
I am Deaf (hard of hearing) and an interpreter.

Sorry, we can't help either. But, I just wanted to add our experience since we just got back. We were there with my dad who has a cochlear implant and my son who has bilateral ba ha implants (different problem, different equipment.) We saw one family whose 5 year son had CI on line for Lights, Motor, Action and we saw another family whose 4 year old daughter had CI on Main Street.

Both times we stopped and talked for a few minutes. You may be surprised that families like "ours" seem to find each other.:) Have a great trip!

When I went in december, I saw a few families with children that had CIs. II always made sure to tell the parent I was a student studying audiology before even waving to the child but after that they were all great and happy to help a future doctor.
