My DS has finally started to enjoy the rides a little more. TT is his favorite ride. He has bee looking at the coasters in the books and says he wants to try them. I'm a ride scardy cat (the drop at AK on the water ride is enough for me) but he wants me to go with so please help us decide on the following:

Goofy's Barnstormer - I've herad this is similar to a kiddy coaster at an amusement park. Is this correct or are there drops?

BTMR - How is this one? Any drops or just fast?

Space - How is this one? I know there are drops but how big and how fast?

I've never been on Goofy's but I can tell you that Space Mountain and Big Thunder (I think) only go about 45 miles per hour. There are drops but they are somewhat small. Space Mountain of course is more scary (if you could call it that) because it's in the dark and you don't know what's coming. But both are fun!

Goofy's is really a kiddie carnival ride. You can actually see the whole thing before you decide if you want to get in line. My kids rode it while we waited when they were 5 and 7--I think alot of kids ride without mom and dad on it. Very mild. Warning though--we thought the line was one of the longest and hottest--not alot of shade.

Space Mountain is not fast, but because it is in almost complete darkness, you really don't know where you're going and it feels faster. I tell people I didn't think it was really scary--I don't remember any really high drops--but it just made me kinda queasy--I think cause it is a little rough and its in the dark.

BTMR is perfect for a kid who is "too big" for Goofy. Its very tame. My dd (now 7) did this as her first big kid roller coaster. From that, she actually had the guts to to Rockin Roller Coaster at MGM. Its not fast at all, the drops are very mild. Its fun, too, cause its a long ride and alot of it is just scenic...the props are great.

Both my boys have always loved BTMRR and SM. They both also love TT. The oldest was 9 our first trip to WDW and rode and loved them all. My youngest rode BTMRR when he was 6 and loved it. He cried because he had to wait a few years for SM. The oldest didn't try RnR until he was 13 - then loved it. I haven't taken the younger on that yet. Goofy's is a kiddy ride. At 6 the youngest loved it, at 9 the oldest said it was a baby ride.

You & your son should be fine on these. None have huge drops, BTMR is not too too fast, it just makes a lot of quick turns. Space is in the dark, but you really can see in front of you if you want to, (after 6 times in one day it lost the surprise unless you close your eyes!), and it doesn't have any huge drops since its inside. You can probably find the specs (mph, highest drop) on one of the coaster websites. Steer clear of RNRC if your scared of speed- starts at 60mph. Have fun!

As others have said BTMRR has lots of turns and short quick drops(nothing big). Space feels fast only because it"s in the dark. Space's top speed is only 27 - 28 mph and BTMRR is about 34 - 35 mph. Start with BTMRR and if that scares you I would probably steer clear of space. Hope this helps. :goodvibes

Goofy and BTMR are very tame, and really not scary at all. But SM is a little scary because of the sensation that you are going much faster then you really are because it's in the dark...But, if you or your DS are hesitant to ride SM, take a ride on the People Mover in Tommorowland-it goes right through SM, so you can see what you are getting yourself into... :goodvibes

Maybe someone can answer my ?.My DD that will be 18 mths will be tall enough to ride Goofy. I have never seen it.Would it be tame enough for her? :wave2:

Height Requirement for Goofy's Barn Stormer is 35 inches tall.If she's shorter than that she won't be able to ride.If she is tall enough the ride it is very tame and very quick! It's over before you know it!

We have a page here on the DIS where you can check her height on all the rides:http://www.wdwinfo.com/wdwinfo/height.htm

Thanks everyone for your responses. My DS loves Test Track (loves the speed) and wants to try some new things this next trip. I think we'll give Goofy's a try and them go on to BTMR if that one goes okay.

As coasters go, most of disney's rollercoasters are pretty tame - the exception is the rocknrollercoaster at mgm.

Barnstormer is indeed a kiddie coaster

Thunder Mountain is a tame coaster - no huge drops, no inversions, no really high speeds

Space Mountain is a tame coaster in the dark

Tell your son if he is brave enough to do TT, he (and you) can certainly handle SM, BTMR, and especially Goofy's Barnstormer.

My DD is 9 and is terrified of TT (she tried it once and vows NEVER again). Her favorite rides are SM and BTMR and they have been since she was 6, her first trip to WDW.

Just wanting to make sure we are talking about the same thing. When I wrote TT I meant Test Track at Epcot not Tower of Terror at MGM (definitely a no way no how attraction for us).

Thanks for the help!

Test Track is different from a coaster. How old is your DS?
I have a very easily frightened 4 year old daughter. She absolutely loved Goofy's Barnstormer. We were there on a Tuesday evening and there was no line so she went on it about 5 times. It was great to find a ride that was really exciting for her, but not too scary. She might have been ok on BTMRR but I didn't take her because although it isn't super fast, it's a pretty rough ride and still might be a bit much for her. I definitely didn't take her on Space because being in the dark, it would have terrified her.

If he's never really been on a coaster, the Barnstormer is a good warmup. If he's scared of the dark at all, don't do Space.
