Coach Purses at Target!

Wanted to add--

I am NOT against thing Made in China. Sadly, it is a way of life in America  I do try to buy Made in America, but often can't/don't. I also have paid more money for something than it is worth.

It is just weird that people are slightly offended that these bags are being sold in Target. I really don't think Coach is "too good" for Target.

We have a Couch outlet and have never seen a 50 dollar one :confused3 Believe me, if I saw it, I'd buy it. I don't think they are low end at all.

Also someone made a comment about Coach not being that great because they have an outlet. There are Prada, Burberry, Gucci outlets...I don't consider any of those low end.

Oh forgot the whole reason I came back to the thread, lol..
I went to Target today and they didn't have Coach...just Coach bag look alikes by another company. I'm in Orlando.

Never said they were low end I said they were low end on the designer scale. When people are walking around with $1300 Gucci bags a $300 Coach bag is low end designer.
I did buy a Coach bag at the outlet for $50. It was a good size one too not a wristlet. I caught it on clearance and on a weekend when they were running an additional 30% off the clearance price.

$300 is on the lower end of the scale for a decent, this season Coach bag. I just bought a beautiful purse last week and was at the Coach store and from what I saw, for this season, I think that Coach is trying to move their name up a notch or two and now by putting their brand in Target, seems to lower their name in my eyes.

Did anyone who's actually seen them happen to look at the tag? Is it a regular Coach tag or something like Coach for Target?

:rotfl2: conspiracy theory... target is smuggling shampoo and purses out of china and for some insane reason they are proudly displaying them for all to see!
my family used to own a tiny jewelry store in the middle of nowhere and we have a necklace that if you held it 20 feet away and looked at it through a warped piece of glass looked a little bit like a bulgari (designer) necklace.
well, wouldn't you know that we got a legal notice to cease and desist selling it!
i'm 100% sure that if target were selling items illegally they'd be called on it immediately!
I dont know about the purses, dut with professsional hair products, they have had legal action taken. When I go to the wholesaler to purchase products for work I am required to sign a release form stating that I will not sell products in large quanites to retailers. Also, with Paul Mitchell I cannot buy more than $100 at one time. The smuggling happens here, unfortunatly. There are knock-offs of everything. Like oscar gowns, purses, and jewelry. What is sad is that small business are the ones that lose out. A knock-off is not the same as deverted product. I could go on forever. It can be a sore subject for me. Sorry. I know this was a bit off topic and defensive. My family laughs all the time when I get on the subject of deverted product. :flower3:

Went to Target today and didn't see any Coach or D&B purses. :(
Me neither, and doubt very seriously IF I will ever see any.... :sad2:

I saw them hanging from a rack in the purse dept. right as I walked in the door, the rack was cleared off clean already, except for a couple keychains and wallets. (It looked they only had stocked small size bags judging by the prices.) I'm guessing they are putting them in the stores that are demographically more affluent?

did not know anything about this till last nights NEWS..There was something on it about Target and Coach handbags..Don't know much more, but I would say if you want one of those bags you might have to hurry and get one...

Why would someone want to buy a DB or Coach at Target -

because I live in a smaller town and have a target about 5 minutes away. And also I usually get some target gift cards for xmas.

i really don't get how target selling them cheapens them if they are selling for the same retail price.

then again, the most i ever paid for a purse was about $300, so perhaps i am not the target demographic here.

i just don't understand getting so worked up about purses. aren't there more important things in the world? ;)

From the linked article:

"Luxury handbag maker Coach is suing Target Corp., alleging that the discounter sold what it believes is a counterfeit Coach bag in at least one of its stores." Store in question is believed to be Largo, FL.

Guess that answers the question. Although a $1 million suit is sort of small potatoes for Target.

Coach accuses Target of selling a fake bag
Target calls the lawsuit, filed in N.Y. federal court, ‘without merit’
The Associated Press

function UpdateTimeStamp(pdt) { var n = document.getElementById("udtD"); if(pdt != '' && n && window.DateTime) { var dt = new DateTime(); pdt = dt.T2D(pdt); if(dt.GetTZ(pdt)) {n.innerHTML = dt.D2S(pdt,(('false'.toLowerCase()=='false')?false :true));} } } UpdateTimeStamp('632954869035530000'); NEW YORK - Coach Inc. has accused department store operator Target Corp. of selling a fake Coach purse, making the high-end handbag maker the latest luxury company to go to court alleging trademark infringement.
In a lawsuit filed in federal court in New York, Coach alleges that a Target store in Largo, Florida, was selling a counterfeit Coach purse marked with the Coach logo and sporting Coach tags.
Target was advertising the bag as being official Coach merchandise, said Coach spokeswoman Andrea Shaw Resnick. “This is counterfeit,” she said. “We got one of the bags, had an engineer look at it, and there’s no doubt that this is not official Coach merchandise.”
In response, Target said in a statement, “The Coach product showcased in our store is authentic and legitimate. The lawsuit is without merit. Target has procedures in place to ensure that we do not sell counterfeit products to our guests.”
In its suit, filed Sept. 29, Coach said it had suffered harm and damage in excess of $1 million as a result of the Target actions. It asked for an injunction to stop Target from selling any items that carry Coach trademarks.
The maker of purses, briefcases and other leather goods also has asked that Target identify the distributors of the alleged counterfeit merchandise, Resnick said.
In June, Italian fashion group Fendi S.R.L. sued Wal-Mart Stores Inc. in U.S. federal court, accusing the world’s largest retailer of selling counterfeit handbags and passing them off as genuine at its Sam’s Club warehouse stores.
The suit by Fendi said that Wal-Mart has never purchased Fendi products and never asked Fendi if any of the items bearing its trademark were genuine. At that time, Wal-Mart said it could not comment.

Aren't most Coach bags/purses Made in China :confused3

Then, it is the same as many other products at Target. You know, the insanely marked up items made by people who work for very little ;)

Yes, they are and cost less than 2 dollars to manufactor, so wouldn't they sell them at Target. I personally, stopped buying Coach, when Sara Lee bought them and off shored the company. As far as I am concerned it is overpriced cheap crap!! And yes, TJ Maxx does sell counterfeit goods as I bought a pair of Cole Haan shoes there (before Nike bought them) and they fell apart very quickly. I wrote a letter and sent them the shoes, I recieved a letter and a new pair of authentic shoes from their legal department. They were very concerned about the counterfeit issue. Louis Vuitton is only sold at their own stores and is priced the same worldwide, so it is doubtful that it will end up at Target.

I love my Coach bags. DH only lets me buy them at the Coach Outlet, but even still I love them. That said, I dont think I could spend $125 (what my last Coach bag cost at the outlet) for a purse in Target. If I am going to splurge and indulge in my 'expensive' handbag fetish, I want the 'experience' of buying that handbag. I don't want it put on the conveyor belt at the check out and thrown in the plastic bag along with the cat food, ya know?

I also appreciate the fine shopping experience higher end retailers provide. I spent twenty minutes buying my LV bag, as they were unfamiliar with the military VAT form. They took me upstairs to a private viewing room and brought me champagne, and started bringing out expensive clothes. I felt like a princess, too bad, I am a bigger gal and cannot fit into any of their clothes, but I did enjoy the experience. I also am known by name and my dog is always welcomed with open arms and a big hug in the Armani store. I too have a shoe/handbag fetish, and the only requirement is they must be 100% made in France or Italy. Nothing else will do for me!
