I have read some of John Wooden's articles and books and once saw him during a tele-conference. He was very down to earth and respectful of others and you could see the respect that others gave him. He was an inspiration to me in my philosophy when I coached and I hope that showed the kids that I had coached through the years of what being successful really was.

R.I.P. to the man that every one had known simply as Coach.

Such a sad day, but I know he lived a great life..

My little claim to him is that we are originally from the same small Indiana town. He came and talked to us when I was in high school. He was 7 years older than my grandparents, but my grandma once told me all the kids loved him because he was the star basketball player taking Martinsville to three state championships. Sometimes people forget that he was a great player too.

However, my favorite thing about him was his devotion and love for his wife. He also never forgot his small town roots. Today's paper said his books will be given Martinsville.
