CNN Terror Alert

We didn't know how good we had it before Sept. 11th. I won't cancel my trip in Oct. but I will be nervous getting on that plane! What a sad day we live in, its depressing!

Do NOT be afraid! I have posted on other threads my opinion on this subject and I just want you all to know.....

AMERICANS ARE FIGHTING BACK!

Supposedly this "new" alert is stating that they will travel in groups of 5 and use ordinary items ie: cameras, etc as weapons but they will be modified. Well, ya know what? There are 100 some odd people on the plane, can we not fight and take down 5 people? I know I'd be one of the ones fighting for my life. I don't think the rest of the passengers are just gonna sit there . . .

Before 9/11 we couldn't have believed something like this could happen. Now we know....
I wont be sitting there, my DH who was in the 82nd Airbourne wont just sit there, my DBIL 300lbs 6'2" Bar Bouncer from Old Orchard Beach wont just sit there.... I pray to God that nothing more will happen, BUT we have learned, they got us ONCE. They have learned, we WILL fight back. I feel very safe that on our flight there will be more people like us, think about that. In our little party of people, 3 of us CAN and WILL fight for you. I am willing to bet that right behind us are more big, strong, ANGRY Americans who will fight to protect you. My DH & DBIL have been trained to take people down. Dont worry, WE HAVE YOUR BACK!
Not just us, but THOUSANDS of Americans who will not let this happen EVER again. Take down a plane MY babies are on? Oh, I dont think so.

4cruisin, absolutely, no disrespect taken or intended, but as I said, "things can happen anywhere." Personally, I feel I have no safety on an airplane even if there aren't terrorists on it but getting on a plane (for me anyway) IS something I can avoid. Going to work, obviously, I wouldn't be able to avoid that. I just mean that I will live my life as "safely" as I possibly can. After 9/11, I will always be looking over my shoulder. Again, if I had no children, I would probably toss all caution to the wind, but this is how I personally feel at this moment in my life.

I take my hat off to those who fly. I had a very scary flight from Paris to Rome once & I swore that if I made it back home to the States without incident, I may never fly again. Well, I did fly for quite a few more years but again, since children came along, all has changed for me.

Things can happen anywhere, but even with the notion of "fighting back" on a flight being overtaken by terrorists, what about the flight that Mr. Beamer was on? Didn't he & several other's fight the terrorist & look at the end result of that flight!

They didn't know what was happening until after the other planes crashed. The terrorist had box cutters and had already killed the pilots. The terrorist had already gained access to the cockpit. Can you imagine what the end result COULD have been if Todd Beamer and the others knew ahead of time that this was a terrorist attack? If they knew it was more than a highjacking? We are alot more aware now. We have one thing they didnt have, knowledge. When the terrorist took over that flight and the others, people were afraid. They might have believed the highjackers when they said no one would get hurt if they co-operated. Who could have ever imagined that this could happen? But once they found out it was a suicide mission, they didn't think twice about fighting back. We now know there are no highjackings, only suicide missions.
No, I believe there are more Todd Beamers than terrorist.

You are absolutely right delswife, but knowledge can be overshadowed by ruthlessness. I do agree though that if another incident like the 9/11 tragedies happen aboard flights, people WILL be fighting back.

If they do try this again, I think that they would most likely come from abroad where there is less security than here in the U.S. I'm flying into Detroit on 9-30 and then on to Orlando...... I keep telling myself that it is much more dangerous to take the car than it is to fly.

I have my doubts as to whether they would even try this again, cockpit doors have been reinforced, some pilots are armed, and there is NO way a pilot would allow them in the cockpit knowing what they know now.

Delswife-- you made me feel a little bit better. I'm just thinking of the shoe bomber, or the possibility of having a bomb in cargo. Blowing up a plane in the air is just as effective a form of terror as crashing into a building. I flew last week for the first time in 8 years, and I wasn't impressed with the screening. Call me crazy, but I'd even feel better if I would have seen that my luggage had been rifled through. I WAS grateful that they delayed our plane 45 minutes when a piece of luggage was missing its matching passenger. I could have strangled the people who were getting perturbed about the wait. I'd rather get off and pay for another flight than fly with a suspicious piece of luggage. I was scared to death to fly before 2001; it's almost unbearable now. Oh, and wouldn't you know that on my first flight out, I was seated next to two Arab-looking men? If they would have had this terrorist warning last week, I might have thought seriously about walking back off that plane. I'm starting to think the stress is not even worth spending my birthday in France.
