I just got an email alert that a 12 YO boy dies on RockNRoller coaster

here is a link to WDW's statement

A 12-year-old male Guest was transported by ambulance to Celebration Hospital today at approximately 11:30 after riding Rock 'N' Roller Coaster. We subsequently learned that he passed away.

We offer the family our deepest sympathies. A company representative is with them providing assistance.

We have closed the attraction pending an investigation. An initial review of the attraction shows the ride was operating normally. We have notified Orange County law enforcement. The state Bureau of Fair Rides Inspection has also been notified and will observe the inspection and review of the attraction

Incredibly sad :sad2: :sad1:

That's so sad. :sad2: My prayers go out to his family.

Why does this seem to keep happening at Disney? Or are we just not hearing about it from other parks and carnivals? :confused3

I think when you have such a HUGE amount of visitors, these things are going to happen. Maybe he had a condition of which no one was aware. Very tragic.

It could be that things like this at other parks just don't make national news. Anything Disney always catches national and international attention.

There is a website that tracks all major incidents involving rides at amusement parks all over the US, I can't remember what it is though.

Oh, I'm sure he probably did have some kind of condition. I'm not at all saying it's Disney fault, hope you didn't get that impression.

Oh no! :(

That's a pretty tame coaster by my standards; I've gone on some much wilder at Cedar Point and Kings Island. I wonder what happened? Was he properly buckled in, etc?

Exactly.

But, we also have to consider that this is even more newsworthy because of the other recent deaths at WDW. That does not necessarily mean there is more danger or that risks have increased from any other given time.

It reminds me of the shark attacks last summer (or was it a few years ago?). When one major event happens, the media really jumps on similar situations and then it snowballs into a huge deal. Which makes the public think there is more danger than previously.

Thanks for the links. I feel much safer going on Disney's rides than carnival rides. :scared:

I couldn't agree more!!! We never take our kids to fairs or carnivals because of the poor (looking) condition of those rides! I hate the fact that they are taken down and put back up so many times and so very quickly! (I'll refrain from commenting on the personnel involved.)

People die everyday from accidents/health issues at amusements parks. Disney just has so many more visiotrs than other parks (and it has such a higher profile) that it is bound to get more attention when events like this occur.

My thoughts and prayers go out to that poor family.
