Can a CM give me the lowdown on what the policy is about CM's wearing their uniforms off property? Whats allowed and not allowed. I get 2-3 different versions

Yes, CMs can wear uniforms off property, but are encouraged not to. Typically they will if they need to get gas or groceries on the way home. They are asked to remove their nametags when not on the clock.

Additionally, several CMs leave property while on the clock and will leave their nametags on. A great example are Resort runners who have to go out to purchase an item to replace it for a Guest. You may see them at the grocery store or even the mall!

We went on a Keys to the Kingdom tour in may and our guide told us that CM are not allowed to wear their uniform off property (unless it's in the car on the way home). He said that even if CM’s tried to wear their uniform to the store there are always a million other CM’s who will call them out on it.

One of the Club Level Cast Members at the Boardwalk Inn told me if a Cast Member was caught by another Cast Member wearing their uniform while off property and it got reported their manager, they would be fired.

The funny thing is a few years ago at the Walmart on Sand Lake Road I once saw a Disney Transport Cast Member shopping there and he was wearing his full uniform.

I see CM's in costume all the time at stores and the gas station.

It's allowed. You just need to remove your nametag

I was told on a keys to the kingdom tour that cm's were not allowed to walk through the park on their way home (or through conflicting lands) but I have seen several go home and stroll through to the monorail, etc.

When I worked there we could NOT take our costumes off of Disney. We weren't even allowed to go to other areas of the park in our land specific costumes. We had to check our costumes in and out before/after shift. There was security in place to make sure the costumes were not taken off property. That said, I wish I had that costume now. It was SOOO cute. LOL I worked in Fantasyland in 1989 and we had cute like german dirndl outfits....

why you wanna know??? Did someone do something not so good...dish please :lmao:

on the contrary. they did nothing wrong other than the nametag thing. i see a few of the same ones come into McD's to get coffee or food with tags on. but have heard thats not allowed.

wow, that must have been time consuming to check in and out all the time. CMs can take up to 5 full sets of their costume out at a time and launder them at home nowadays.

As for costumes, not a whole lot of CMs will wear their costumes out mostly because they're a bit "funny looking" out of the context of their lands. Most of the time the girls and I would wear our skirts home, but everything from the waist up was street clothes. I'm sure we looked really weird if we had to stop for gas lol, but usually we were just driving home so you'd never see it anyways. princess:
When I was a CM I would have been mortified if a little one recognized me out of costume O.O If I was working in the morning and wanted to go play in the parks afterwards, I would avoid the little princesses like a plague and wear sunglasses so no one would recognize me :rolleyes1 That might have been overkill but it worked.

.

A plus was we didn't have to launder our costumes. LOL We did have to wear heels with them. Do the female CMs still have to wear heels? Mine were really short, but heels none the less...

They are not allowed to wear their uniforms off property. This is an offense that could lead to termination.

When we took the Keys to the Kingdom tour a while back, they mentioned that this policy had changed to the one described by +Rosetta+.

Still, I'm assuming much of this costume talk is mostly referring to the "standard" ones used by the general workers in a given spot. I can't really imagine seeing Belle or Jasmine pumping her own gas (but I could see a race of guys going over to assist!). :lmao:

This was only in MK since there are different costumes for different lands. In the other parks, with the exception of WS, most of the other CMs wear the same costume.

Same here..CP 1996. I liked it. Give laundry my dirty clothes at the end of the shift and get fresh, clean ones the next day!

According to what I saw in a video on Keys to the Kingdom, they are mainly laundered by Disney since there are some/many parts of the uniform that may not be able to be laundered at home. They now have put little permanent stickers on many of the pieces and that's how they are checked out to the CMs and, when they are brought back for cleaning, they are scanned and identified as belonging to that specific CM. It was all very interesting!

That must have been an old video. Most Cm's launder costumes at home now. They do have stickers but those are for inventory.

Anyone who has "doubts" you can see for yourself.
You can watch all the CM's walking in in costume at DTD (Disney businesses). Sit at the entrance to AK and watch all the CM's walking in in full costume. Check out all the CM's parking and walking into the Studios in full costume. The same at Epcot.
