CMs asking kids to remove shoes for height check

CMs should NOT be asking anyone to take off their shoes. That is against the policy. The rule is that if the shoes fit their feet appropriately (I.e, if they're not wearing big brother's shoes which are clearly 3 sizes too big), then it doesn't matter if they are three-inch platform sandals, CMs are required to allow them to ride. But bear on mind, your kid may look like he or she is touching, but if anything can pass between their head and the bar (a ticket, a flik card...anything no matter how thin), then they are not tall enough.

HUH? That would largely remove the purpose of the height restrictions...those three inch heals aren't going to help you sit safely in a ride designed for taller riders. I expect Disney's policy is safety first, not "safety first unless heeled shoes are involved".:confused3

My 7-1/2 DD is close - if not already - 47" tall. I hate to say it, but I hope there's some rides she can't get on, gives another excuse to go back to Disney as DH is getting a bit tired of it all. After 9 days of staying I will be too, but that feeling wears off and I'm ready to go back. :rolleyes1

I definitely won't throw a fit if they won't let him on, and he won't have a meltdown either as he's too young to care (just turned 3). He might have a fit if somebody wouldn't let him ride Dumbo, but the mine train won't get him down. :)

i have NEVER in all my trips seen a cast member ask a child to remove their shoes.
measurements are always with shoes ON.
i would just make sure that your son is COMFORTABLE in them.
btw imo 7dmt is highly disappointing.
we had fp+ for it both MK days and after the first day we cancelled it for the second day and changed to something else.
just saying.

My kids have never been asked to remove their shoes. (I have seen it before - but only with really obvious shoes). One of my kids was sort-of 40" with shoes on one trip and sort-of 44" on another. By sort-of, I mean that she measured 40" for the first ride of the morning but not later on. She even did a ride twice in a row and on the third attempt - in a row - did not make the measurement inside the ride! We hadn't expected her to make it on any 40" rides, as I had measured her at home as a little under. So when we did measure her it was a "let's see how much you need to grow before our next trip." She was upset when she didn't make the second measurement, but she was also prepared it could happen - and was happy she was able to ride it in the first place. She was 3.5 years old, so not exactly at a great reasoning age - so there were tears but she also got over it and understood it. (And we had the plan to do the 40" rides first thing - and then on a different trip, the 44" rides).

My youngest was actually asked to get out of the stroller and get measured at Star Tours just to deny us rider swap!! He was barely 40" with shoes and they made him get measured before they would give us one. Since he made 40", they wouldn't give us one. I wish they would have done without shoes then! (Or realized that our sensory-quirked barely 40" 3 year old should have been able to get us child swap.

I always thought this was a poor excuse. The colored bands work perfectly fine for such purposes elsewhere and Disney isn't hesitant to use them themselves when it suits their needs, like the hard ticket events.

Not comparable. Nobody with a hard-ticket event wristband is going to try to place on or swap it with anyone else with a wristband for the event. It'd be pointless.

This is a related question, so I hope you don't mind me asking it here!

Both of my boys are very tall - the 4 year old is about 46 inches and 2 1/2 year old is nearly 39 inches. So there are a lot of rides they can go on, but are they too scary? I'm planning on taking DS1 on Soarin and DS2 on 7DMT and Kali River Rapids if he wants to go on them. I was just wondering if anyone had experience with toddlers on those kinds of rides. They both rode a lot of rides at the fair over the summer and weren't scared!

It is up to you as the parent to know that. Some kids will have no problem with the rides as they are thrill junkies and others won't want to do it. I don't find anything particularly scary about what you mentioned but perhaps watch a video of them on youtube with the kids and ask them what they think or just watch the rides when you get there before getting in line. You can see both 7DMT and Kali from outside the line so no problem. Soarin as long as they aren't afraid of heights has nothing super scary or anything.

Also I know this is an old thread but if someone new asks a question that is similar to the old thread discussion why not just extend kindness and help instead of ignoring them and pointing out how old the thread is. It wasn't that long ago that everyone was jumping on newbies for not using the search feature and now that it appears people are they just get told the thread is old.
