Sorry, Ann and Amy but I'm calling it a night.

Lately DD is not napping at all and still going to bed at her usual time -- boo hoo!! I was really hoping she wouldn't give up her nap yet...

G'nite all!

Aw....good night. Talk to you tomorrow! :surfweb:

Night Night Marshay and Amy, I am going too!

Just try to have some fun without me!! ;)

Impossible! Can't be done! Thanks for making me laugh so hard I cried. Eric didn't appreciate the bouncing heads as much as I did! Man...laughing is fun!
Thanks ladies.....see you tomorrow!

While I would hope that the Top 10 are getting friends and family in front of computers, I would also imagine that the winning candidate will not take a single vote for granted.

There are many, many reasons to use every resource to get the word out.

Selfishly, I hope that the Top 10 do an excellent job promoting Careerbuilder and Disney Parks because I don't want this to be their last contest. If the candidates all only work to rally 25 people each to vote for them over and over... then the reach for the sponsors will be 250 people. WOW. They could have made more impressions with a sign on a busy street. Why bother with another contest?

But furthermore, wouldn't each candidate have to assume that the other candidates would have as many or MORE friends and family? It is possible that the non-friends/non-family votes will be the difference between 3rd and 4th. Why sit and wait for those extra votes? Go get them!

If you only do what every other candidate is doing (including what the sponsors are doing for everyone) then the best you should be able to hope for is a tie.

Another reason to promote with local media: We are on Day 11 of the voting period. Which email would you rather send to friends and family today?
1. Hey guys... thanks for voting for me for the last 11 days. I need you to sit at your computer for 10 more days. Thanks. I really appreciate it.
OR
2. Exciting news! Our campaign is going so strong that I've been asked to appear on "Good Morning Ourtown" tomorrow morning! Tune in at 7AM. I am so grateful for your help. Keep voting! I'll have more updates on how the word is spreading tomorrow!

I think version 2 gets your friends and family more inspired... so its a triple bonus... more exposure for sponsors, more exposure for your campaign (and those critical extra votes), and something to inspire your friends and family to keep voting.

Another thought about Day 11. If you haven't already contacted all of your friends and family at this point and you are not rallying them to vote for you, I don't know what to tell you! So... do you think that every other candidate is just hoping that's enough? Or do you think there are some candidates out on Sunset Blvd. passing out flyers? If Amy Kate got only 10 extra votes from that effort, you are now 10 votes behind her. (Assuming she still put in her own hours voting for herself too)

Bottom line, every vote matters. This year, there are not 25 winners. You could argue that there are 3 winners... but in my mind there is only one winner. Do you want to leave a single vote on the table? Are you prepared to lose by one vote?

Ok... um... I guess I'll put my soapbox away. (Thanks for the loaner Tripp)

Eric, you're absolutely right. When the top 10 was first announced, I sent emails/phone calls to the news media here, in my hometown, and even where I went to college. What's been interesting about my media blast is that I've encountered little interest in covering the contest! It's been really surprising to me, especially considering that I live very close to the parks. I wonder if the other top 10 candidates have had the same experience? I haven't given up, and I have a "stunt" planned that may end up getting me unsolicited press coverage, so all is not lost. I think I'm a pretty enthusiastic person, and I've been trying to drum up support around town (and even at the parks, since I'm next door), and I've been surprised by how small a number of CM's have even heard about the contest. I know that I've been putting careerbuilder's and disney's name on everything I've sent out so far (except for my car--that's just my website), so hopefully someone I've met at kinko's or the post office is hearing the message!

Thank you for your advice and encouragement! I promise to let you all know anything new in the promotions department!!

David, I wasn't under the impression that the sponsors were putting anything together for us in terms of press engagements. It will be a nice surprise if they do!!

Wow, as always, I've missed a lot while at work!

If you check out the updates that have been made to our sites, there are links to "press releases" that were prepared by the folks at CareerBuilder and Disney on our behalf. Like Meggin, I contacted most of the local media myself and have had two newspaper interviews and a radio spot coming up later this week.

I don't know how I feel about the lack of burning interest in this outside of our friends and families. Sadly, I guess it's safe to assume that this isn't everyone's cup of tea . . .

Eric, I totally understand where you are coming from - and as someone who is a big fan of yours I'd love to see them take you up on your bargain. However, I also think that it isn't necessarily right to assume that just because other finalists don't check in with us or aren't savvy enough with the websites and forums to use them to their advantage that they aren't doing A LOT of things we don't know about to promote the contest. I'm going to give everyone the benefit of the doubt on this one and trust that they are doing what they feel they can. . .

Interesting comment about some of the sites Kenny listed. I've lurked on a few of them and have found them to be not the most friendly of forums (of course, who can match this one!). The feelings about the contest have varied wildly, but they seem to be (at least the ones I saw) pretty universally agreed that people popping on to their board to seek out votes isn't something they are real interested in. I'm NOT saying I'm afraid or shy, I just want to respect their online communities.

Just some food for thought!

Trust me, I've been on Mouseplanet for four years and this site (DISboards) is the friendliest and the bestest. That's not sucking up, Vickie and I agree on this. David

Gotta say Eric, if they weren't sorry about passing on you, I am SURE they must be now!

The Top 10ers can be as supportive as they want of one another but that could just end up clouding the votes......are people running as a team or individuals, you know?

I am so very envious of the position you Top 10ers are in --- please enjoy this enough for all of us!!! And good luck!!! I am ready to vote lots more!!! :thumbsup2

Ann,

Thanks for the good luck wishes and I'm glad you are ready to vote more! That kind of enthusiasm will certainly help Disney and CareerBuilder when they are deciding what to do for future contests!

I also agree about Fleagle - he has proven himself time and again to be the kind of man, friend, father, and husband that anyone could be proud of.

As for your comment about clouding the votes . . . this could just be me here, but I'm not going to change who I am. I don't believe in cutthroat competition. I believe in respecting and admiring the gifts and talents of everyone - including the other finalists. I think they all bring something amazing to the table and I don't feel that it hurts my case at all to point those things out. While this is obviously a promotion and a contest, I sincerely believe that the most "Disney" thing a finalist could do would be to support and build up the other contestants. I want to win. But I really want to know that I was someone that other people admired and who reached out and made as many friends as I could during my time in this spotlight. That is the way I choose to live, and even a contest for the most amazing opportunity in my life won't sway me from that!

Please don't think less of me, or think that I am not interested in winning. I certainly do not mean anything I said to come across as a slap in the face to the wonderful people who are cheering us on in this. You are all amazing! I just don't want to get so caught up in this that it becomes too much about me. That's not why I entered. I entered because I wanted to be able to focus on the wishes, talents, hopes, and dreams of others, and there is no reason why I can't do that even in the midst of the competition.

Love you all!

David,
I've been on Mouseplanet as well and have been a member of Lou Mongello's Disney World Trivia site for a long time. One member there even posted a poll in which people could share who they voted for. Despite all my posting on that site, I think only 16 or 17 people had voted there so far. The online Disney community is amazing and I'd love to connect with them all, but we each have to make our own decisions about what we think will help us get the most votes.

That being said, Kenny's plan OBVIOUSLY worked for him last year, so he's probably on to something!

And with that being said, I've probably just offended one of the most amazing groups of people I've ever met (without actually meeting!) Please, if you have any questions, let me know!

I hope you don't hate me - - - I'm sensitive like that!

Have a wonderful night and hopefully I'll get home a little earlier tomorrow night so I don't miss all the fun again!

Thank you fgm! I agree with what you said. I got a call from the PR firm to set up an interview with a very small local weekly paper. Did Britney call you? She won't return my calls! I hope you do call Brady at the LATimes. He's been great.
David

Yes. I did call Brady. He said that he wouldn't interview me because he didn't think it was fair to the other 9 finalists, even though the LA times is my largest local paper. So, I went through the usual channels with the LA Times and the OC Register. I haven't heard back from either.
Brittney won't return my calls. She's had so much local TV coverage since she was to appear in court here today on 2 different cases. I guess in the world of PR Bad News really is Good News!

Sorry, not a book -- but I am doing a Disney ABC scrapbook or activity book to keep my 2.5 year old daughter occupied on the plane, help learn her ABCs and familiarize her with Disney.

I did one last year that had puzzles, memory cards, lift the flaps and touch and feels for her (not ABC one though) and it was a big hit!

Feel free to check out my Sept TR link below to see pictures...they are near the beginning.

Very cool Marshay! I am impressed with your idea!

Before I have to crash for the night I need to send out a HUGE THANK YOU to Catotigger for my new avatar! I love it!

i've had similar experiences lurking on the other boards, and i've been similarly conservative about disturbing close-knit communities. i have posted on the disney blog about the contest--i was one of three people that commented on the story.

i do feel incredibly lucky to have been welcomed and included in the disboard discussions--and a major thank you to eric for assuring me it was ok to join and start talking. i'm like justin, i don't want people to be upset or dislike me. i'm definitely a people pleaser.

again, thank you to everyone for letting us be a part of this wonderful community. sleep tight! i second justin's hope--that i can get home earlier tomorrow night so that i can play longer!!

wow, justin, this is amazing. this is exactly how i feel, and you put it so eloquently. i don't think anyone could misconstrue your intentions in this contest. you have wonderful qualities for a CMO :flower3:
