CM ticket question

Posting this here since the 'all about tickets' sticky is here. I have read it so I want to be sure I am clear on this.

My grandfather (retired cast member) purchased a 5 day ticket for each of my kids. I believe he received a 10% discount. I want to add 2 days to those tickets to make them 7 day tix before our August trip so that we can access FP+ for our entire trip. We will be in Orlando in April so I can do this then. But it sounds like if I add days to it before I use it, I will have to first pay that 10% back, then add the 2 days. Is that correct? Or will the CM discount still be honored??
Thanks!

If (IF) they will allow you to upgrade those tickets at all (don't know what kind they are) if they were purchased from Disney, I think that you would need to pay the 10% (or whatever the discount) before upgrading.

Regular MYW tickets bought directly from Disney (not part of a resort package or from the Disney store) will not be "price bridged."

(Can you ask your grandfather to do the upgrade, or add days?)

He had to go to the CM "compound" to get them and they can only get up to 5 days. They told him they can have days added to them but he would have had to go to guest services to do it so he just sent them as 5 day. They look like regular MYW tix and I believe they could have have hoppers as well, we just didnt want them. So, I do think they are regular tix, he just gets a discount for being a CM.
So, I think I am stuck paying the difference (about $60 total) OR I can make FP+ for only 5 days and chance the other 2, then upgrade after I use it once-blah, not my first choice.

These tickets follow the regular upgrade rules as shown in Post #6 and #22 in the sticky. So to save the 10% discount they have to be used first and then upgraded.

Thank you for a "final answer". (even though I dont like it) :)

In some ways yes, however I knew they were MYW tickets. I wont be able to make 7 days worth of FP+ for our trip unless I want to pay the difference, so is $60 worth 2 days worth of FP+ in early August?? That is the question now :)

If you upgrade soon after entering your first park, you'll still have a few days in advance to make your last Fp+ selections.

At the beginning of this month, I chatted with guests who had received their gray MagicBands upon check-in and they stated they were able to select their first-choice Fp+ without any difficulties. The first week of December was still quite busy this year.

Yes, I think I can make it work and you make a good point, I hadnt thought about that. In my head, August is so *unknown* in terms of FP+, but I assume paper FP will be long gone and more people will be using the system than currently and they may be harder to come by, but I do think I can make it work. One of our days is a late afternoon-closing at AK, I think we will be fine there if we do EE at the end of the night.
But thanks for the suggestion. I will make FP+ for our last day as soon as I upgrade. YAY~$60 saved!! :)
