I have been calling DD using the 800# for about 6 months now and have never had a problem (got the # from the DIS boards)

I am now calling all the time lately b/c I am checking for a 4:30 at Tonys on 9/22- maybe I will get lucky and someone will cancel-- anyway! a CM picked up and said I will give you the dining#???? This kind of threw me b/c everyone else was always nice and helped me when I called- I said didnt I just CALL DD?! She said I dont know how you got the 800#! are you a TA!? I said NO! But I always call this #- she finally helped me but I had to go through the 3rd degree!

Well- helped is not the appropriate word- all she said was- no 4:30 available. ewww- so I hung up! :sad2:

wow!! that is interesting. i too have been using the 800# for years and never encountered that. i would suggest calling back. maybe that CM was having a really bad day. good luck!

The 800 number is supposed to be for TAs. The number is all over the net though and they don't ask for any confirmation. I suspect there will be no 800 number shortly because its being abused - or they will make you give your TA number.

If Disney wants only TA to use this 800# then why does the prompt ask you #of visits and has one been since the year 2000? :confused3

I had three toll free #'s for WDW. I called one of the #'s a few months ago and it was for McDonalds. It was WDW, but for McDonalds employees or something. I got rid of the #. I also called a # and they told me it was for travel agents. The one # I have left has always worked for me and that is 1-800-828-0228. If this # is for TA's why do they ask all the questions as mentioned in this thread.

What toll free # did you call?

THATS the #! And not only do they ask you how many times you visited blah blah- they ALSO ask you for your ressie#!

Abuse- is when they leave you on hold for 20 minutes when you are calling the 407#!! you sit there and watch the timer on your phone and tally up the $$$$ in your head!! :sad2: Come on!-- they cant have a 1-800#! thats just wrong! :guilty:

I had a CM ask me not to pass the toll free number on to anyone else once.

I agree with maddhatir about being on hold for ages being abuse. I have been there, done that, until I found the DIS. :cheer2:

It's the same prompt regardless of how your call is connected. The only difference is who is paying for the call. It sounds as if Disney prefers to pay only for travel agents calls.

well, too bad too sad for WDW, I already pay enough for the trip itself and I should not have to pay for a phone call to spend money at their resort.

I didn't think anyone paid for long distance anymore these days! Most folks I know have an all inclusive monthly service (Comcast for instance charges me $39.99 for service and LD) or they use their mobile phone.

Since I use my cell an 800# or a 407# are the same. I have like 5000 rolled over minutes, so I just use the 407#.

As a travel agent we have access to toll free numbers for many areas of Disney. When we book travel, we can call for you to make dining plans.
I heard that when you buy your passes at the Disney stores on your receipt prints a 800 number for you to call.....I know this was the case last year I don't know if things have changed since then. :cheer2:

Well- to confess- I dont pay for long distance  - I use my work phone....BUT!!!!! :rotfl: it is still the principle! :rotfl2:

AND I changed my cell phone plan to something with long distance- I cant remember! :rotfl: BUT! it is sill the principle!

It amazes me the amount of people who just simply aren't willing to follow the rules. I've posted several times that it is my understanding (and I would be happily proven wrong by someone posting a link to a public 800#) that there are no 800 numbers for general public use. Most people just flat out don't care - if they have the number or can get it - they are going to use it. I think its wrong and I don't understand people who think its right. I don't agree with those who rationalize by saying the they already pay enough for a Disney vacation - toll free telephone access isn't included in Disney vactions.

I'm glad the CM was trying to curb that use. Free calls aren't "free" - we all pay for them through the money we pay to Disney

I have been calling the 800# number for several years now and never had any trouble but one time. About a month ago I was told that the right number to call was the (407) number and that I was not supposed to be using this number. :)

Disney seems to be on a new "cracking down on abuse" kick. They've stopped renters from calling DVC member services, they seem to be interested in enforcing credits and sharing on the dining plan, they are enforcing transfer rules for DVC - there are a ton of small things that all of a sudden people have always been able to do (they may or may not have been technically against the rules, but people did them constantly) - that are suddenly being enforced.

The times, they are a-changin'

the toll free # i use is 877-939-3732. i never have any of the problems mentioned

I got the #800 from the passporter. I didn't have a passporter for my 2 previous trips and I had a few large phone bills from all of the sitting on hold that I did! I have never been questioned when I called and I will share it with anybody I know who wants it!
