club level upgrade at PBH

After reading on this site about paying cash at check in for a club level upgrade, I thought I would call the PBH to get the details. I am currently a platinum member of the club (only through the end of the year) and when I made our July reservation I was fortunate to obtain a portofino suite (at the seasonal rate of $269 per night). We are a party of 3 adults and 2 children. I was disapppointed when the front desk person told me that it would be $80 per night, per room, not per reservation. I thought that this was a little high based on our occupany of 5. The bedroom portion of the suite comfortably sleeps five and I did mention that we were not intending to pack the suite portion with additional guests. She told me to speak to the manager at check in. Has anyone been successful with a club level upgrade at checkin without paying the additional per night charge for the suite portion? Thank you.

I can't help you with your question, but I would like more information on how you upgrade at the desk. I don't think I would pay $80 extra a night either.

We are also staying at PBH in July with 5 adults. We have a standard Garden view room that is costing us $255! Not much less than your suite. How we would love a suite at your price. :(

When in July are you staying? How did you find the rate and the suite? I have never seen one listed on the web. I just joined the Loew's First program, so the only thing that will get us is Cookie's and Milk!

antiad,

You shouldn't have to pay the $80 twice just because you have a connecting Portofino parlor. I would definitely talk to a manager at check-in. If you happen to check-in in the morning or early afternoon, ask for Francesca. She is a MOD and is always very helpful and accomodating when I stay at PBH.

Familyof14,

If available at the time of booking, free suite upgrades are guarenteed for Loews Platinum members. The only catch is that you have to book at rack rate, a Loews discounted rate, or an AAA rate.

RyGuy,

Your comments are encouraging. We should arrive at PBH by noon. I will take your advice and talk to the MOD. Thank you.

I am a bit confused by this post....

We are staying in a club level room. At first we could not decide between a suite or a club room. I called reservations and asked a few questions, I was under the impression that if you are in a suite you are automatically at club level....but you are not. At Universal, you either have a suite OR club level. It is not like the Grand Floridian, where you stay in a suite you are at conc. level.

that is my understanding...but I still may be confused

The club level rooms are all deluxe rooms. If you stay in a suite, you do not have club level access (I think  )

It is very confusing!

I am only a Blue level member. Besides, we are getting to the resort very late at night, so the chances of upgrading at check-in are nil.

We were in a King Suite at RPR in February - it was $299 per night - did NOT include Club Level (unfortunately).

In order to have club access at PBH you have to book a club room or pay an upgrade fee at check-in to bring your rate up closer to the rate for club level. If you want a suite with club access you would need to book a club room and then book a portofino, villa, or hospitality parlor. In the case of Loews First Platinum member you would need to book a club room at rack rate or AAA and they would give you the parlor for free if one is available.

I have a club room reserved at PBH from 8/4-8/8 at $258/night(not including taxes). This is an APH rate that I got by calling 1-800-BE-A-Star. Would this work better for you?

Jiminy14,

Thank you for your post. It would be another angle to explore. I really don't want to give up the suite because we enjoy the extra living space, and I don't mind paying for the club level access, but I can't see an additional $160 per night! I may call about a club level room with the suite upgrade (available to plat. members), however, because I don't know the property that well, this combination may not be available.

Thank you again.
