So, that "other" Disney fan site is reporting that there are major changes in the works regarding Club 33. If you thought it was hard to get in before, well it is about to get a lot harder.
Prior to any changes, all Club 33 members were allowed to give virtually unlimited parkhoppers to their guests. The new changes restrict annual sign-ins to 50 per Member for Gold and Platinum Members. Platinum is a new level of guest and membership will include access to the 1901 Club in the lower level of the Carthay Circle in DCA. Platinum Members will also get a certain number of VIP tours a year and Premiere APs to give away. It comes with a cool $10,000 annual dues fee which does not include the initiation fee. Apparently, current Gold Members will be allowed to upgrade to the Platinum level without an initiation fee, but they will have to pay the $10,000. If they don't, they will not have access to the DCA club.
What this means is that Members will no longer be able to afford to be as generous with their reservations. This doesn't affect guests who already have an AP or other ticket media, but it will affect those who relied on the parkhopper to make dining at Club 33 worthwhile. Members can still make reservations for guests without giving them a free parkhopper, but doubtless this will reduce the overall number of reservations they make per year. I would imagine this is an attempt by Disney to be able to expand membership to more folks on the waiting list.
So I guess there will be no true Club 1901, just Platinum Members of Club 33 who have access to the DCA lounge. Interesting idea.
Apparently this is not sitting well with many long time Members of the Club. Oh, and the dress code is going to be loosened a bit as well.
