I have been doing some research for our upcoming 7-day Eastern Cruise. I thought the excursion in St. Maarten "French Riviera Beach Rendezvous" sounded wonderful!

However, in my research of the French side of the island it said that the Orient Bay was mainly a clothing optional beach???

Has anyone done this excursion, and can you confirm for me what the beach is like?

Thanks,
Amber

Only one small section is clothing optional. Orient Beach is a very large beach. There are several beach clubs along the stretch of beach. DCL excursion goes to Waikiki Beach, I believe. This beach club is in the middle of the beach, with the clothing optional beach club all way to the right......1/4 to 1/2 mile away.

We have been there twice and you do see some naked people strolling the beach, but not a lot and if you ask me, they would look a heck of a lot better with a bathing suit on!!!!

There are also some topless sun bathers at these beaches.

TIP: We did the DCL excursion and it cost our family of 5 about $250 for the trip.

Next time we cruised we did it on our own and paid about $25 in cab fare. We wound up at the beach club right next to the Disney excursion and saved tons of money!! I will always do it on our own from now on.

(lol)

When we cruised many many moons ago (13yrs.) some of the group we were with went to the clothing optional beach and were very disappointed!:p

It seems that since we were there on a work day (week day) the only people who were in attendance were those who weren't working, i.e., retired. Our "friends" said there were a lot of wrinkles and sagging. None of the "beautiful people" they had hoped to see.

I thought it served them right!

Reality versus air brushed photographs can be earth shattering! LOL!!!

I have been to Orient Beach on St Maarten. There were several totally naked people (not a tan line in sight). There is a "Naturalist" beach right next to the regular beach but it doesn't seem to matter to the naked people what part of the beach they are on!!! All the beaches on the French side are topless, so you see a lot of that. All that said, the beach is absolutely beautiful and worth the trip if you don't mind the naked bums!!!

Go to their web site Oreintbeach.com for further information. It is
a beautiful beach, but like all the others have said it is a clothing
optional beach. When we went my husband was quite shocked
when the girl next to him whipped off her top to tan!!LOL....We
also saw some totally nude people walking the beach from the nudist
section...All in all the beach and water area is gorgeous. But I
would have second thoughts of going there if I were taking my
children!!

We opted for this excursion during our Eastern Cruise in 2001. We did not notice the little asterick * beside the excursion listing which noted that it was a clothing optional beach. We were surprised. I think my wife believes to this day that I put my thumb over the asterick while showing her the excursions.
We did enjoy the day but not the trip over. You will be exposed to a lot of poverty and then all of a sudden you are in the rich section of the island.
We saw equal amounts of beautiful people and old wrinkled people. One couple, mid 70s, walked by with nothing on but straw hats. Miss Vivian, my DW of 35 years, looked at me and asked, " With all that skin exposed, why would they wear hats?" My reply was "Must be where they keep their money cause they ain't got no pockets."
The water is clear and the sand is like sugar. We love describing our day at the Naked Beach to our friends who never leave our small town.
The small kids that were in our tour never seemed to notice the nudity. I know this because my DW is a K4 teacher and worried about it enough to keep track of their reactions.
Go and experience somthing new,
Ruvidu

No, the "many moons" comment wasn't intentional (maybe subliminal), but you are too astute for your own good.

Needless to say you get my vote for "wittiest poster on DisBoards". Sorry you aren't joining us in November. I think you would be a blast to be with!

Have a great time on your cruise and I am sure you will keep them in stitches!
