Hi all, can anyone give me some advice on clothing to wear in May? We are visiting Newport Beach and then San Diego for 14 days (obviously doing Disney/MM/Knotts etc), are we OK wearing shorts and t-shirts or will it not be warm enough?

Will 'family' restaurants in Newport Beach allow this kind of dress (we have a 3 year old so nothing fancy!).

Thanks all for any comments.

Hi Simon,
May can be hit or miss. For the most part, the weather should be pleasant but you may encounter some early "June Gloom". This is where we encounter some wet weather during the summer months. For me, I pretty much wear shorts all year round. I would imagine that t-shirts and shorts will be fine but pack some light, water-repellent clothing...just in case. The evenings will be cool but not too cold. Have a great time!

Should have mentioned we are going the first two weeks in May, we booked before realising it was the 50th!

Even better! From what I hear and have seen, Disneyland will be nicely decorated for the 50th! You'll have a great time. The rain gear may be needed but you'll know more once the date approaches.

I highly recommened warmer clothing for evenings, along with some long pants for San Diego (it can be quite cool there--60s during the day even in May) and days where it might be not so warm.

I went the first week of may in 2002 and pants were nice to have as it was cool in rhe mornings. We landed in LA about 12am and wished we had luggage so that we would have had jackets but they were on another plan!!

Just watch the weather channel as your trip approaches.
