We have church directory pictures coming up and I need some ideas for what to wear. My original though was to have everyone wear black, but some friends did this and I know all I will hear is "you copied us" from her. I know, not that big of a deal, but I thought if I could find something else... . Any good ideas?

Last directory our church did we all wore white tops and blue jeans. Turned out pretty nice.

I also worked the photo counter once and saw lots of ideas. One family all wore pastels--looked nice! Also, I thought the family in red tops was neat...

daughter was in the middle of her two children. GD had on a red jumper with a white blouse........grandson had on a red black and white shirt...not stripes but one side was red ....one was black and middle was white...or something like that.sleeves were white...and daughter had on black vest with white shirt......grandson had his arm on his moms shoulder .......they did not plan this but it came out the best I have ever seen of photos

I've seen white tops with khakis in group photos, that looks very nice!

We've done several family pics over the years, some outfits we wore are...

1) Girls and I wore black with white collars, DH in black suit and white shirt.

2) Adults wore solid red shirts, kids wore matching prints with red in them.

3) Denim shirts with jeans.

4) Red, white & blue. I think DH had on a solid shirt, I wore white with blue stars. One DD wore a sailor type dress in those colors, other DD had a white shirt with a heart in the middle in those colors.

I also did a picture with myself and the girls (as a present for DH) and we all wore white one time and red the other.

I like the suggestion of white shirts with blue jeans, unless you don't think that is dressy enough for a church directory, then you could go with the khaki's as someone else suggested. I was on our church directory committee 2 years ago, and there was a combination of all styles.

For our family portrait for the church directory, me, DH and DS wore blue button down shirts and khaki pants. Our shirts were all different shades of blue and they turned out really nice with the blue background that we had to have.

This is what our family did. We had the portrait done on the beach in Cape May. It turned out great!

When we had a family group photo session on the Cape a few years ago, the photographer told us to wear khakis on the bottom and shirts/blouses in pale shades of blue. She said it looked much better than most colors, including white, when the photo was developed. The shots came out great.

We are doing one of those family beach photos this fall and have been looking forward to doing it for years!
We are planning on wearing Hawaiian type prints - dress for myself and DD and shirt and khaki pants for DH. All the same print, of course, don't want to look like a tropical train wreck!! LOL!
Everyone has those photos with wearing all white or blue jeans, etc. They all look the same.

My sister did this in October on the beach. The powder blue looks good against the sky.

In our church directory people tend to dress more formally. I wore a short sleeve solid black dress with pearls. My husband wore a black suit. DS10 wore a mint green polo with khaki pant. DS 2 wore a linen, mint green, two piece short outfit with peter pan collar. He sat on my lap. My DD8 wore a dark pink dress with mint green flowers and a mint green bow in her hair.

I picked my DS2's outfit out of the closet first. I went from there knowing that he would be in the center of the photo. I figured I could better coordinate the kids if DH and I both wore black. I was lucky that I didn't have to go out and buy anything!

Good luck. I know it can drive you crazy  but it will be worth it when you see your pictures.

We had family photos on the beach. We used them for Christmas cards. We all wore Khakis and white tops...Im kinda partial though. One of pics is in my signature.

I like to do all white. Don't do a dark color. It looks like the floating head family :rotfl:
