Does anybody know if there are clotheslines in the bathrooms at AK lodge?

::yes:: Yes you just pull them out and connect to the slot on the other wall. They are just behind the shower curtain, over the tub.

Thanks! The clothes dryers at the resorts seem to take so long so I'm going to hang my clothes to dry I think.

That probably will take MUCH longer than you think. I've hung up bathingsuits up, completely wrung out, and they usually take up to 2 days to completely dry. Remember the humidity in FL is EVERYWHERE, even in the airconditioned hotels. So, be prepared..........

WE HAVE BEEN VISITING DISNEY WORLD SINCE THE YEAR IT OPENED AND HAVE STAYED AT ONSITE HOTELS. TODAY WE RETURNED FROM A WEEK AT THE AKL AND I WANT YOU TO KNOW OUR EXPERIENCE BEFORE YOU BOOK ACCOMODATIONS THERE.

THE ROOM WAS DIRTY: POOR LIGHTING IN ROOM AND VANTIY, PHONE RECEIVER AND CRADLE DIRTY, CLOSET DOORS STICKY AND DIRTY, BATH MIRROR FILTHY, BLANKET STAINED, ELEVATOR MIRRORS DIRTY, ROOM GLASS DOORS DIRTY, USED WET TOWELS STILL IN BATHROOM FROM PRIOR GUEST.

UNLESS YOU THRIVE ON AFRICAN STYLE FOOD, DO NOT PLAN TO EAT THE 23.OO BUFFET AT BOMA OR MENU AT THE SHOWPIECE RESTAURANT.

UNBELIEVABLE BUT TRUE, FRONT DESK CLERK RUDE AND SNIPPY.

AS FOR THE ANIMALS: ONLY SAW TWO ZEBRAS, SOME PELICANS, AND THE LEGS OF TWO GIRAFFES.

WHERE YOU EXPECT WOOD IN THE LOBBY FROM PICTURES, YOU WILL FIND CONCRETE PAINTED IN STREAKS TO RESEMBLE WOOD.

TAKE THE SAFARI AT THE PARK TO SEE THE ANIMALS AND LEAVE THE ANIMAL KINGDOM LODGE TO THE BIRDS.

720L - I have to agree with jel0511, we dry our swimsuits, but anything else really doesn't dry at all! Last March, my DD dragged me on Kali River Rapids, and I was the one getting the gallons of water dumped on me! I squished back to the room, wrung out my clothes, hung them up to dry. Next day, still nearly as wet as when I took them off!

I do have pretty good success with swimsuits by rolling them up in a towel first, but they are made of lightweight, quickdry material. I don't think regular shorts, shirts, etc. are gonna dry at all!

Good luck! And, we just returned from AKL, had a wonderful time and the resort is gorgeous!:teeth:

Just the flip side to frequentdisneyvisits;

We have stayed at the AKL on 3 different occasions. Rooms were on the dark side, they use lower lighting so at night you can see the animals.

Boma's has a wide variety of food, it is not one of my husband favorite places to eat for dinner but he can always find plenty of things to eat.

If you spend any amount of time at the hotel other then the middle of the afternoon, there are dozens of places to view animals. They have viewing windows throughout the hotel, and the best spot is if you walk outside at the ends of the halls.

As for housekeeping,we never experienced anything like this, but that is not to say a room can't be missed.

While AKL is not for everyone, anyone who is either likes exotic animals or wants a quiet resort, give it a try.

I just wanted to agree with kathylovesdisneyworld. We've only stayed at AKL once, last August. We thought the hotel was absolutely stunning, exotic, peaceful, and a great respite from the parks. Yes, the rooms and hotel are on the dark side, but that lends to the ambience. We were there at the hottest time of the year and still saw MANY animals all over the resort and from our balcony. If you keep in mind that this is not a zoo and the animals are kept in as natural a habitat as possible, you will enjoy the experience immensely. As for Boma, my two DDs loved the food so much that they requested to return repeatedly during our trip. My DDs are not picky eaters (as a matter of fact, they're pretty adventurous), but if 10 and 11 year old kids found the food delicious, I'm sure adults would be able to find something to their liking at such a HUGE buffet. (By the way, the soups are to die for!)

I know this is off the OPs original subject, but I didn't want the negative response from frequentdisneyvisits to deter you from your original plans. We loved the resort so much, we'll be returning this August. It's a true vacation.

one more thing - if you have a savannah view - do NOT put your towels/bathing suits on your balcony to dry...you will receive a call from the front desk to remove this stuff. (they don't want it blowing off into the savannah where the animals are.)

We did the Sunset safari in January and talked alot with the animal keepers out there...they said they will (and do) call when they see stuff on the balconies...it's just for the safety of the animals which is there #1 priority.

That being said - DH and I both LOVE the AKL and have stayed there twice (september and january) and would go back there in a heartbeat.

And - additionaly, a coworker (who is orginally from South Africa) ate at Boma a few weeks ago and LOVED it. Said the food was to die for...and she was surprised how many adults were eating off the kids buffett.

I had the same experience with hanging wet bathing suits too. Best to use the dryer...or bring more than one bathing suit.

We spent 8 nights at the AKL in October 2002 and loved every second of it. As a matter of fact, my granddaughter chose AKL as the resort for our 2 night stay at the end of our DVC stay coming up soon.

She also requested to eat at Boma again. We all found plenty good food and my DD & DGD are picky eaters.

Go and have a great time!

I think I smell a troll.....

Thanks everyone! I guess I'll use the clothesdryer. I hope our stay is good there! I just read a thread on somebody getting bitten by bugs at AK Lodge and she got sick. Mosquitoes? Frequentdisneyvisits: Did Disney re-clean your room and do something because of their mistake?

We were upgraded to savannah view on our trip last August and saw many animals - even in the afternoon there was usually something out there if not many things. I definitely would not depend on the clothesline to dry anything except the bathing suits.

As for the bugs - my husband is sensitive to bug bites and never had a problem at the AKL or the resorts in August. We brought bug spray but never needed it. It is possible the poster who had a bad reaction to bug bites had some sort of allergic reaction (allergies are very complex -and sometimes interact with other things in the environment can cause reactions you don't normally get). Perhaps take bug spray along and if you need it you'll have it. I was amazed at the lack of mosquitoes cause that time of year in Maryland you were eaten alive by them.

Have fun!

Well I for one hope lots of folks read and frequentdisneyvisits' tirade to heart (ALL IN CAPS TOO! PLS DON"T DO THAT! IT HURTS MY EARS :p ) and stays away from AKL, so they discount rooms for when my family wants to go. If you are afraid of something a little unusual or need for your food to be burgers & fries or bologna on white, then by all means avoid AKL.:teeth: It is definately not for everyone, but it is my family's favorite.

We, too, absolutely LOVE AKL. I can't say enough good things about the whole resort, as well as Boma. We ate at Boma twice on a 7 day trip and have PS for June!! I know there can be problems at any resort, but I would have asked for the fixable things to be fixed and gone on with my vacation. ::yes::

We have stayed at AKL twice and loved it both times. We have eaten at Boma's at least 5 or 6 times and had great meals every time. Now I am very picky and my son is worse, but I can always find a full plate full of food - entrees, vegetables and salads (not to mention the wonderful desserts), every time. Plus a second trip back to the line for a few favorites.

We've stayed on two different savannahs and saw plenty of animals each time. Sometimes you have to get up early to see them feeding in the AM to really see different animals.
