Clotheslines anyone?

I use my outdoor clothesline in the spring/summer and as long as possible into the fall. In the winter I have 4 lines in the basement and hang everything downstairs. I don't use the dryer except for towels, socks, undies and my DH's work clothes.

I have a clothesline and use it when the weather permits. During the winter, I have two wooden drying racks, which work well. (I place them near--but not too close--to the woodstove.)

Ditto what Nancy said. I have an umbrella type clothesline (in the Sears catalog, it was called an "outdoor dryer.") I hang everything on it except towels, undies, and most socks. Mostly I use it to reduce shrinkage from the dryer. I also have clotheslines in my basement that I use in the colder months. I think I'll try that throwing the jeans in the dryer fro 10 minutes trick next time I do laundry. Thanks Boots!

I had one prior to moving here and put one in this house, too. I used it for a while, but the wasps/hornets were so bad that I was afraid they were going to find their way into the kids clothes. It also takes so much longer to do the laundry--time I don't have anymore. My mom and sister "enjoy" putting clothes on the line. I, personally, don't mind putting it out--it's the taking down, folding and putting away parts I hate--come to think of it, I'm not real fond of those parts using the dryer either! :D

I'd love to, but it's not allowed in our neighborhood. I love the idea of conserving energy, even if it does make the clothes a little crunchy feeling. And I'd really like to hang out my diapers to get the stains out. I do hang up the diaper covers on a retractable line in my laundry room, but that's not the same. :(

Wow - a lot of you use the clothes line. My SIL dries all her clothes on the line. I thought about trying it - maybe this year. It would sure make the dryer last longer.

I use it year round! :bounce: The only thing I don't hang is socks and undies....with 5 of us, I would run out of clothes pins in no time! I usually put a wooden dowel dryer on the back deck and hang them on there. As far as the jeans coming inside stiff, just toss them in the dryer for a few minutes on low....nice and soft!! I hate using the dryer for jeans, especially the kids jeans, since they tend to shrink! I would rather hang them outside in the winter, and only use the dryer to finish them off if the clothes are a little damp when you bring them in. 10 minutes in the dryer beats an hour anyday when the electric bill comes in!;)

I use a clothesline as long as weather permits. Dh built a nice permanent one for me two summers ago. He put up 3 lines so I could hang unmentionables on the center line -- he hates the idea of the neighbors seeing his skivvies! ;)

I have a clothes line as well. And during the winter I have a dryer rack downstairs as well as an area that has a place that I can hang up everything else up on hangers. It works really well because as soon as things are dried They are ready to be hung up. I can't stand using the dryer and I don't use any of the products that are available for the dryer when I do use it. I am allergic to all the chemicals that are used in those dryer sheets.

I used to hang my clothes out all the time but not as much anymore.

LOL...my DH is the same way! Like none of the neighbors wear underwear! :D

I have a clothesline and use it all the time when the weather gets nice. I hang out everything but socks and underwear. :teeth:
