What's been your experience at Clothes Mentor?

Our DDs do okay at Platos!

Thinking of taking in some of my stuff.

Is this an okay time to try and sell? Think they're still buying for Christmas shoppers?

(I have some with tags still on etc)

TIA.

I just saw this....

I sold quite a bit of clothing to Clothes Mentor this past week. I purged my closet completely. I had a few items with tags on them (but they were too short for me and since I bought them on eBay I couldn't return them), and the rest were mainly work clothes I was just tired of. I made sure that everything was neatly ironed and laid out for easy viewing for the staff.

They took a few hours and I made $280. They said that everything in my bin that I brought in was in AMAZING condition, but a lot of the stuff that they couldn't take was either because 1) they had way too many skirts in stock (which stinks, because I had about 10 j.crew pencil skirts in there) and 2) it was older than 2 years, and they have strict rules on that.

I'll take the skirts back in a few weeks when their stock has dwindled down.

I want to say that all in all, I sold about 60 clothing items, a pair of shoes from Payless, and a long chain necklace I never wore to them. Not bad for items just sitting in my closet.

Great!!

I took in two bags of good stuff, a few things with tags, and did pretty well too!

It felt good to get rid of stuff and make a little $$ too! :thumbsup2

I definitely think its better than Platos! (even though I KNOW Platos is for teens! LOL)

My ONLY complaint about the store is that it seems to already be so overcrowded with items, which makes looking through the racks a little harder than it should be. I'm sure they'll end up doing sales to take down some of the stock. I just stumbled across them about 3 weeks ago, and am so very glad I did! Happy it worked out for you as well :)

For years I have made extra money buying and reselling clothes. It's an odd way to make money but I found that is fit my lifestyle well.

Here is my experience.

I have sold to them a few times. They are really picky and want things in pristine condition. I suggest washing everything right before you take it in.

You can look at their offer and I suggest you do. There is some wiggle room with really desireable items. There was with the pair of Christian Louboutin shoes I had that were too big for me. They wanted them bad so I had some negotiating power.

If it's a regular sweater or pair of jeans I would not expect even a fraction of what you paid for it but hey, if you don't need it anything they pay you is found money.

Each one is an independent franchise so if one does not treat you properly there might be a different one and I find your offer REALLY depends on who is pricing things so if you find someone you like ask for them or go in when they are working.

They pay less than traditional resale or consignment shops because they pay you on the spot. If you are hoping to make money and don't need it immediately you might do better with a traditional consignment store.

Clothes Mentor says they accept any season clothing I find that is a bunch of BS. Maybe if you have something really special but for regular items it's more tricky and they only buy what they need.

What I mean by that is if you bring in say a dozen pairs of like new size 6 jeans and the size 6 jeans rack is already full it doesn't matter how nice they are they are most likely going to pass.

I wish you luck!

Lisa

I haven't tried clothes mentor, but I know the local OUAC offers nothing, and I know they are all from the same "family".

I've used Like Twice (which is online). They give you $10 when you sign up, and $10 when you sell. And the prices were fair to me for what i sent in. I liked that they sent me an envelope and paid shipping. Easy Peasy.

Here's my link (I get $10 if you buy/sell, you get $10 for just signing up). liketwice.com/cuTYZ
