Please help me. I have had several appliances go recently. I am looking to replace my washer and possibly my dishwasher. We are a family of 6. I do 3-6 loads of wash a day. Currently I have a super capacity Maytag, which I have had nothing but trouble with. It is about 6 years old and I have had it fixed at least 9 times. I have had Kenmores in the past, which I used to have good luck with, but my last one gave me problems (hence the maytag currently). I am hoping some of you can give me an idea of the best washer for the money. Also, I have a magic chef dishwasher that broke about 3 years ago I am thinking of replacing. I got it 2nd hand about 10-12 years ago and it was atleast 5 years old then. Any ideas on dishwashers that are currently good as well? I don't think magic chef is in business anymore.

Thanks for any help. My Dad is kind enough to help me out with this as my Christmas gift, but I don't want to take advantage.

I have the Maytag Bravos washer and dryer and love it. I think it is just about the largest HE top loader you can buy. I know you don't like your Maytag though.

As for the dishwasher I got this one a few weeks ago when my other Kenmore died (white is cheaper than stainless which is shown):

So far, so good. I was looking for large roomy interior, a disposal/grinder (as opposed to the basket to "catch" big chunks that needs emptied), and quiet. At 57 db this is about the quietest I could find without a major price tag. I didn't want to spend $1000 on a dishwasher. The controls are along the top of the door, so it has a nice clean appearance.

I have the same dishwasher! We got it on Black Friday 08. Its over a year old and still going strong. Haven't had any problems with it. Love that it has the hidden controls, all other models like it are near the $1,000 mark.

We bought a new washer last Feb I think. Our washer broke and it was already 7 years old when we got it, we put 2 years on it, so we figured it would just be more cost effective to buy a new one. We cloth diaper, so we coudn't even wait for a repairman, lol.

We have the whirlpool duet sport. We bought it from Lowe's but I don't see it there anymore. It's a stackable, although we don't use it that way now since we don't have the matching dryer. I like the option though if/when we move to do an upstairs laundry room if we have limited space.

It works really well, especially with all the dirty diapers we throw in there. Love it! My favorite feature is that it tells you how much time is left on the cycle. Makes it much easier to plan for loads. I also like how fast it spins, it gets clothes much dryer than our top loader ever did, they require much less time in the dryer.

3-6 loads a DAY? Do the kids change clothes three times a day? Do you have teenagers who shower two or three times a day? Do you have babes that wet themselves and/or their beds?

When all our kids were home and there were six of us, I might do two loads a day, particularly in the winter, but how in the world do you have 1/2 to a full load per person per day? I'd hate to pay your water bill.

Just had to ask. Sorry for being nosey.

Sheila

We have that big Maytag bravos too and it will hold a LOT, but be warned--the cycles are long which could be a problem if you still do that many loads a day. And it does require HE detergent.

I'm gonna be nosey too, I have a family of 4 and we only do about 4 loads per week! I can't begin to fathom doing laundry that much!!:laundy:

We plan on hitting up the floor model or the scratch and dents at Home Depot, Lowes...or Best Buy. BIG savings, and they still have the warranties.

We went in Best Buy a couple of weeks ago to look at something else, and they had a front load set that was under $400 each piece.

Our new washer is being delivered tomorrow. When we did some research, the brands with the most positive ratings were Samsung, Electrolux, and Bosch so that's what we went looking for. We got the best deal at Lowe's on the Bosch. This week they have $100 instant rebates and an additional 10% many Bosch washers and dishwashers, and free delivery and haul away. We got a high capacity front load washer for under $700. I have an electrolux dishwasher that I love, but it's definitely more expensive than the Bosch--especially with all of the discounts right now.

Re: laundry. We are a family of 5 with two dogs and I do 4-5 loads per day. I average 1 load per day with bedding (4 different beds, dog beds, and throws from all of the sofas and cars). I also do 1 load each day with their school uniforms, 1-2 with anything they wore to a sports practice or game, 1-2 loads of clothes (usually a light and a dark). My son has some serious health issues so I have to wash all of the pillows and comforters each week in hot water. And I always wash the sports stuff right away because it stinks :)

We just purchased a new DW.

Shopped around and priced them out all over.

Ended up buying one @ Lowes. It is a Whirlpool, like my old one.

I wanted the tall tub option and nylon racks.

Got this one for $360 +tax.

I love that it is set up identical to my old one, including having the silverware rack in the door so it doesn't take up dish space!

Being the tall tub model, the top rack can be adjusted up or down, which I love!

My old one lasted a good ten years or more. It still worked, but the racks had rusted out badly (we have horrible hard water that is hard on EVERYTHING!!), and it was too hard to keep things in place due to missing prongs and such.
We looked into just getting new racks, but they would have run a couple hundred, so we bit the bullet and decided to just buy a new DW.

I am hoping the nylon racks will actually last longer as they claim, and hoping the DW itself will keep running strong like my old one!

The guy said a DW typically goes 8-10 years, so ours was doing well since it still ran strong! Darned racks and hard water!!! ;)
