Which is a good brand--can only find gerber in stores but on ebay there are several to choose from. We are to the point with DD that we must go to cloth as she reacts badly to the other stuff.

I haven't gotten to the potty training stage yet, but we do cloth diapers. My fav cd websites are nickisdiapers.com, jilliansdrawers.com, and greenmountaindiapers.com. diaperpin.com has reviews on cloth diaper brands so maybe they'll have reviews on the training pants you're looking for.

We used Gerber training pants for our girl when it was time to transition from cloth diapers to potty training. They are thin and not as absorbent as the fancier types, but they are extremely inexpensive and I found that during the potty training process it was absolutely a lifesaver to have about a dozen pairs of pants on hand (maybe 2 dozen) because then I could just put a new pair on her when she got wet and if there was a terrible mess I could just throw them out without feeling bad. The more absorbent and waterproof ones were much too expensive for me to be able to have as many as I needed. The gerbers were also softer, and more like underpants. Whenever I put anything that resembled a diaper on her she would just use it like a diaper, in more underpants-like items she was more likely to use the potty successfully. For this reason we could never use pull-up type pants during the day because she would just figure that was a diaper and go for it. I also think that the lower absorbency was a benefit in another way, the uncomfortable sensation of pee running down her leg was definitely motivating when it came to making it to the potty in time.

When we first started out I would occasionally put 2 pairs of gerbers on her at once. And a couple of times, like in the car, I would put the gerbers on her and then put a diaper cover over them. The diaper cover could be reused with just a quick wipe or rinse between accidents so you don't need nearly as many and they are less expensive than the training pants.

Good luck.

as far as covers go---where can I find them---they are not in the stores--sorry to ask so many questions, but this is my 4th child and have never gone this route. Because of her skin issues the daycare has agreed to let us do this. Wish they would have agreed about cloth diapers a long time ago...

Diaper covers can be found at any of the websites listed by the previous poster. Google cloth diapers and the covers which are usually velcro closures will be sold there. If you decide to do that you should remember that you need "pre fold diaper covers" NOT "all-in-ones". The all-in-ones are designed to hold an absorbent insert and won't work as a cover over training pants. I would not use the plastic or vinyl pants with the elastic waists that you sometimes find at baby stores. They retain moisture too well and will probably make your daughter's rash worse. The diaper covers sold by cloth diaper companies are more breathable and not so tight so there is still air circulation around the body.

By the time our girl was training we had some plain covers by a company called Imse Vimse that I liked because they were very soft and breathable. When she was younger our diaper service provided a brand called prowrap which was more waterproof and has the benefit of being very inexpensive, which you may prefer if this is something of an experiment.
